About as much sense as telling Mr. Davis that he wouldn't be getting a contract extension at the end of the year when his contract ran out. I'm just saying Barta may have worked something out with Lick and it won't really be a "firing" but they will just say both parties decided to part ways and Lick gets some of his buyout money and Barta doesn't spend as much. That is very possible.

This really wouldn't surprise me that much. What would surprise me is the players being informed before the tourney. I just don't understand why they would do that.

That would result in several otherwise credible posters being banned, though not from this board. As I said above, it's an interesting mix of people. It could all turn out to be wrong, but I don't think the core group of posters who've added to this are making anything up in terms of what they have heard.

Notably, I don't think I've seen anyone claiming to know anything about where the decision stands in terms of timing--for example, as to whether Lick or the team have been told.

For purposes of self-preservation, I'm still approaching it all with a healthy dose of skepticism.

This sounds fairly plausible. It would be a relief to all parties, coaches, players, admin., etc. It just isn't working, and there are alot of good people really trying. I'm sure Lick is really relieved if this is the case, and it will give the players hope that a different day will dawn. We should know something by tomorrow.

Doing it now before selection Sunday. The University of Iowa is looking for a coach. This couldn't be more perfect. Heck will have the media and even maybe ESPN discussing possible replacements. The next 4 days ESPN is going to be covering basketball 24-7. The timing makes perfect sense...

And saying it was a mutual thing it allows Barta and Lick to both keep egg off their face as well.

Sometimes people just aren't good fits for companines/universities when they appear to be on paper and this is one of those times, nothing wrong with either party admitting it didn't work out, they tried, it didn't work so now both just need to move on.

Like I said, take it for what it's worth. The choices at noon are: Farm Report on WHO, Rome on 1460, or local sports on 1700. Obviously not a great selection, but you take what you can get.

My post has no inside info but just chiming in on the timing issue in all this.

My first reaction is I agreed w/ rdubbs that this made no sense, why fire a coach and let the team know 24 hours prior to the BTT instead of just waiting a day to make a decision.

However, it is possible that certain players forced Barta's hand. Maybe they approached Barta saying we are not coming back next year. Maybe Barta had resigned himself to one more year 2-3 weeks ago but this knew info was the tipping point. He discussed w/ Lick and Lick knowing what losing certain key players would do to the team next year and seeing the writing on the wall he would be terminated next year after another miserable year. Lick agreed to a buyout siting health reasons as he knew what terrible stress next year would bring. Barta then let the team know in an effort to do everything possible to keep certain key players so that the next coach wouldn't walk into the same situation that both Alford and Lick walked into (losing several key players from the previous).

I am just saying this is very plausible. I guess we will know in 24 hours.

I know fans were ****** due to the NWSt upset,but it was a 17-0 season at CHA and a 25 win season with a BTT title...I remember not wanting it to be true.
