Is this serious?

Wow Lebron actually seemed likeable there....as far as Wade goes....take a hike...@$$hat...You're getting the privilege to represent your country.

Yes this is serious. No one is forcing you to play in the Olympics, DW or Jesus Shuttlesworth. Just tell everyone you aren't playing because you ain't gettin paid. You whiney overpaid beyaatch's make me wanna hurl.

Exactly, if you want money just refuse and say you won't...then everyone will just realize you are a whiny $#@%^...these guys are getting paid millions to play a GAME already...you don't need more. It is an honor to play in the Olympics for the stars and stripes.

unreal.

i am not saying i agree but i do see the point.

pro players have a shelf life and their bodies start to break down and they cant play anymore. each player has a limit of how many games their body can take. the games they play in the olympics and training for it takes games off that count and that is their livelihood. i know they make lots of money but it means less yrs they will play and that means less money they make. i understand that.

i teach but there isnt a shelf life for teachers. i can teach until im 70 and possibly do just as good as i do now (not saying i will or all teachers do). a pro cant play until they are 70. remember they make their money over 10-15 yr careers while we make ours over 50 yr careers sometimes. i get why some would think this way.

remember to us it is a game. but to them it is their job. it isnt about the amount they make but rather how long they have in their job. it is like overtime. i know most jobs get paid for overtime working.

But they make insane amounts of money...and then when they retire? They get more money from endorsements, TV, etc.

not all of them make all that money afterwards. even stars dont all become sportscastors.

plus they only make the amount they do because we pay them too.

Just stupid, it's an honor to play for your country in the Olympics. If he's so worried about overworking his body he should just not play.

How much money has Christian Laettner made from his dream team appearance? Probably a lot less than you think, these players need to cash in while they can. CTC.

This is a terrible example. This is not about some employee working "Overtime." He's already made more money than most hard working Americans make in 50 lifetimes. Screw him. I don't want that piece of **** representing this great country.

Are you saying that he will shorten his career by playing in the Olympics? If my memory is correct the NBA plays 82 games. Not counting the time spent working out and playing pickup games, etc. Do you think that every day he's not playing an NBA game he's just sitting on the couch eating Ding Dongs?

Playing on the Olympic team is a drop in the bucket in the amount of physical activity that he already does.

lol, It's not like you have x amount of jumpshots in your life. Playing a few games in the Olympics will NOT shorten his career.

No kidding.... there was a time when no pro athlete was allowed in the Olympics(I know, I know USSR and E. Germany). Hard to feel sorry for these coddled athletes.

In 2001, Laettner donated $1 million to his high school, Nichols School in Buffalo, New York to create a scholarship fund for students in financial need and to aid in the completion of a new gymnasium.[15] In 2005, Laettner and Davis donated $2 million to Duke's men's basketball program to endow an athletic scholarship and support the construction of a planned athletics center and basketball practice facility.[16] Their donation to the Duke Legacy Fund—which seeks to make the Duke basketball program financially self-sufficient—represents the largest donation by former Duke basketball players to the program since Grant Hill endowed a $1 million scholarship in 2000

Doesn't sound like a guy with financial troubles....except Wikipedia does say he has financial problems...but that is because of bad business decisions it sounds like. And if I EVER am in the position where I owe someone $30 million...I had a pretty good life. You can't even owe someone that unless you are pretty well off.

You should tell that to his creditors.

And if he had gotten paid in the Olympics I don't think he would be in that mess now.

Complete BS. If a player is worried about playing in the Olympics for any reason, then they simply shouldn't play. It's a simple word: N - O. I'd rather they weren't on the team and the spot went to someone who would value the experience for what it is.

I see there are some people in this thread that think the olympics isn't all about money and has little to nothing to do with amateur sports at this point.
