Is this right, Illini give up 63 to Maryland?

Wow that is incredible. And Lovie is a defensive guru. I think this is his 3rd year, yikes. That is a huge school that fields a decent football team once a decade. I think I might rather have the hawks having 7-10 wins a year and being consistent even if they just break our hearts a couple times a year, at least.

Illinois has Chicago, St Louis and east ST Lou, and lots of other good sized cities in the state and Gary and others in Indiana, KY.

It just goes to show that it isnt always talent as some coaches win with less talent and some coaches with talent cant consistently win.

And another way to look at it is Maryland gave up 33 to Illinois but some of that might have been late, I didnt see the game or even see the score until now

430 yards rushing, 280 passing, and a 97 yard kickoff return will tend to produce lots of points!

Oh, and a 54 yard run w/ 30 seconds left when I assume they were just trying to run out the clock.

The state of Illinois produces talent, as you said, but Lovie hasn't convinced much of that talent to play for him.

Many of their previous coaches have not farmed the talent in and around Illinois.

heard Jeff George's son transferred before this season, maybe not a big loss but still he has some skill

JFC... 700 yards of offense?!

They used to have a major California connection back in the Mike White days, much of it JC's. They dominated the conference in 1983, including pasting Iowa 33-0. Unfortunately they left for Pasadena shortly after Thanksgiving, partied like it was 1999, and laid a dinosaur sized egg in the Rose Bowl.

I remember those days. Mike White was the best thing that ever happened to modern day Illini football. I especially remember the quarterbacks they were getting back then. Started with Dave Wilson then Tony Eason, who later played for the Patriots. I believe both were JUCO transfers. White, along with Hayden Fry, were the two coaches who probably did more to rid the conference of the "three yards and a cloud of dust" reputation it had back then.

Jack Trudeau and Jeff Geroge Sr. we're pretty good as well. The myth for decades was that Big Ten teams couldn't throw the ball when the weather turned colder and nastier. Fry and White helped change that notion, paving the way for Joe Tiller and others.

The myth that Big Ten teams couldn't throw the ball in adverse weather conditions was just that-a myth. Check out Kirk Gibson's stats as a MSU receiver sometime.

We like to think that but Purdue and IU were a part as well.

Jack Trudeau was the QB on that 1983 Rose Bowl team. They also had a TE by the name of Tim Brewster. Yes, THAT Tim Brewster.

Another guy on that 1983 Illini team was Thomas Rooks. He is the father of former BTN hottie Taylor Rooks.
The father of BTN analyst and former OSU and St. Louis Ram star James Laurinatis was way cooler. He was one of pro wrestling's Road Warriors, arguably the most famous pro wrestling tag team of all time.

Hey, if that's how you swing, more power to ya...and Hawk would've killed Animal if they had ever gone mano a mano
