Is This Board Bi-Polar?

Just a few days ago, several posters were openly stating that Iowa was in danger of missing the tourney completely or being on the bubble come Selection Sunday.

Now it sounds like Iowa might be a 3 seed and could possibly run the table the rest of B1G play.

Which one is it?

Also, I see hawkfan33 got the ban. What happened? He was a good bball poster and it appeared he was being overly negative last week after the OSU loss. I took it as him mocking the negative posters on this board because he was never usually like that.

Yes, this board seems bi polar. That is because after every loss the negative nancy come a running. After the wins they slink back into their holes, and wait for the next loss.

I didn't know 33 got the boot??? He was just pulling a OK4P with his posting. Hopefully it is just for a little time.

Just wait, if we lose on the road here the next few, there will be people calling for Fran's head and we'll be on the bubble again.. .even though the next 2 will be very tough games that any team in all of college basketball are capable of losing but won't keep us out in March because of how strong the team has been all season. Very little prospective in the message board land. It's just the way it is.

It's kind of like the board is a collective group with a bunch of different posters who all form different opinions and have different personality types.

...only if the same posters are being overly negative, then overly positive.

I suspect that when Iowa loses, the negative people post all of their vitriol. Then, when Iowa wins, the pie in the sky folks post.

Maybe I'm wrong, but this seems to be the case.

I never thought Iowa was in any imminent danger of being on the bubble. It would've taken a massive collapse for that to happen. I did, however, see some danger of its NCAA seed stock dropping significantly if it did not beat Michigan, and proceeded to go on a bit of a slide and lose @PSU and/or Indiana.

The win against Michigan was a big one, and really helps to solidify our position for the tournament. Again, that's barring any kind of major collapse, but I think this team gave us reason once again this past Saturday to believe that will NOT happen.

This board is a collection of Nancy's and Koolaids.

When Iowa loses, the Nancy's start whining. When Iowa wins, the Koolaids break down a wall and say "OHH YEAH."

We're conditioned to college football where 1-2 losses ends your season (as far as competing for a national championship go) so one loss pretty much is the end of the world in a lot of ways where as college basketball has a bunch of games and a tournament that a bunch of teams qualify for. We're not used to the roller coaster and the fact that the season is far from over after a couple of losses.

Once we're good for awhile in this sport we'll remember that but a majority of us are new to basketball, or at least have been away for a bit.

Or have forgotten what's like to have a team that's playing for seed, rather than an NCAA bid. Usually, Iowa has even been a bubble team the better part of the last decade.

I remember the 2005-06 team lost to Minnesota & NW late in the year on the road (both of them were bottom feeders at the time) and that Iowa team still got a 3 seed in the dance. A couple losses don't end your season in hoops. Not by a long shot. There is plenty of opportunity to redeem yourself down the stretch, and in the BTT.

We are a great team but I wish we wouldn't suck so much.

Once we are good for awhile....its gonna get worse, not better. Higher expectations and level headed fan base dnt go together.

True. I just think college sports are crazy in general. Pro sports fans seem to be more level headed as far as understanding that one loss doesn't kill you. Then again, maybe I just hang around with the right pro sports fans and post on the right pro sports message boards.

I think this is the case. I tend to be a Koolaid drinker. It is my nature. The posters on this board, for the most part, are big Iowa fans and collectively get too down after a loss and too high after a win.

I will say that there are a very high number of Cyclown trolls who just love to hang out (because it is a free board) and stir the pot. I don't take those clowns seriously and they are easy to spot most of the time.

I tend to be positive, but rational about things. I don't expect a national title, I don't expect a B1G Championship. I would LOVE both, but I know it would take a special season with tons of luck and the stars aligning just right for either to happen. As it would for any team. More then likely, we will have a solid team that has potential to reach for great heights but might not for whatever reason. I DO find myself being the kind of fan that is snarky to Negative Nancy's or the Koolaid drinkers for whatever reason. Typically I get a kick out of both sides and like to exploit it.

pro sports are a different animal. longer seasons and playoffs change how one game effects your mindset

There's also a 3rd group of relatively open minded and objective Iowa fans. This group will enter a thread started by either Koolaid or Nancy and try to be rational and post rationally the majority of the time. However, even this group may find it necessary to take on either a Koolaid or a Nancy if it becomes necessary...
