Exactly. I guess I don't understand why people are so excited about filling these rather insignificant positions.

Because it's called a team and every part of the team matters, but yes, it's not the most important position there is, but it doesn't make it completely insignificant.

Grad assistants are quite possibly the most insignificant piece to a basketball program. The speculation surrounding this position is just insane.

Well with over 1500 views I guess there are plenty of people who do not share your opinion. Most fans on this site are excited about the upcoming bball season and are interested in who Fran surrounds himself with. We don't care if the position is not of huge importance. People are just more excited about all facets of this program than they have been in over a decade.
Hawkeye basketball fans have things to talk about and reason for optimism and that is important!
