Iowa has to find some down field threats before this season has a chance to be special. KMM is a good possession, slot guy but not a #1 B1G WR. Smith, Hillyer, & Powell have done a few things but no where near enough to get the attention of D coordinators.

It's gonna be Willies or T. Smith or both. Powell might be able to provide a jolt every once in awhile, but unless he's drastically improved he's too small to make a consistent impact. We all know what KMM is going to provide. He's a leader who makes plays consistently. He's more of a possession receiver though. Willies and Smith both have the ability to be both possession receivers and down the field threats. They have to prove it on the field though.

It's crazy to say without seeing Willies play in a single live game, but I think it's going to be him. He has the frame and the speed to be great, and it sure seems like his demeanor is perfect. He's soft spoken and mellow. Seems very even keel. Doesn't get too high or too low. Doesn't let the outside noise impact him. The quicker he can become the Hawks best deep threat the better this team will be.

I'm really excited for the season, but we should have learned by now, you don't lose 3 extremely talented and experienced linebackers and not take a healthy step backwards on defense. The question is, has our offense improved enough to overcome the loses on defense? I don't want to sound negative, but I would not be surprised if we went 8-4 or 7-5.

A non-con road game and an out of division game, both on the road?

If those two games decide the season, the only Iowa will be playing for in the last two weeks is a chance to be spoiler.

Good thing we have no impact on the outcome of the game. I can look past every team we play and it won't make one bit of difference.
