Is the BIG that good...or that bad?

When the SEC points out that the reason they get a 1 loss team in the title game is because they are from top to bottom the best football conference...many Big Ten fans take exception to that...for instance I think the top of the SEC is the cream of the college football crop...but the middle/bottom isn't anything incredible.

Well...with JNW taking teams down...and other teams getting beat up...is the Big Ten that good...or is it sub par? I think we all realize the conference is not as good as we originally thought, with OSU faltering and now Wisky looking a little shaky.

Just how good is the Big Ten this season?

Subpar in my opinion.

I still believe if MSU can get healthy they are a Final 4 type talented team.

Michigan is a slight step down due to their lack of presence inside and could struggle if they get matched up with a team that can expose that weakness. Sweet 16 type team in my opinion.

Iowa is next in line and I would say we are a team that should get out of the first round for sure and maybe win the 2nd.

The problem is that after these 3, I don't see teams that can get out of the first round. However I won't be surprised if Bo fugues a way to win. Seems like the Badgers always win a game or two in the tourney. Ohio St is a team that can't score.

I would have thought Minnesota might be a better team than those two but that loss to NW at home is bad.

I'm not buying that this NW team is decent.... Instead I'm thinking the teams that lost to them are frauds.

I cannot put my finger on why Northwestern is so effective, this is the same Northwestern team that lost to Illinois State and DePaul on their home court. It seems like every time I watch them whoever they are playing plays like crap and some how Northwestern makes a big basket to pull out a lucky win.

On the other side of the spectrum I do not understand Wisconsin's struggles either, they are loaded this year. This is the same Badger team that has wins over Florida and at Virginia, had an easy Big Ten schedule, and has lost 5 of their last 6 games. They have a starting lineup where all starting 5 can knock down the three pointer including a 7 footer. It is funny how a year where you expect Wisconsin to win they fall on their faces while last year everyone expected them to be rebuilding and they kept winning. So I say expect Wisconsin to win all the time. :D

Ohio State is not playing very well as a team right now. But unlike Wisconsin they had not really beaten anybody so perhaps they are a case of just being over rated.

Iowa very well could be the best team in the Big Ten this year but they keep shooting themselves in the foot in the big games. Michigan is the only team to have really dominated Iowa and they are riding Stauskas hot shooting right now.

We will have to wait until the NCAA tournament to find out just how good the Big Ten really is. I agree with iba, if MSU can get healthy they might be the only legit Final Four contender.

In the first place, you're a clone troll. So let's just put that out on the table.

In the second place, no one can answer this question until the NCAA's start. You'll have your answer then. That is all.

I don't understand how people try to up caps on how many games a team can win in a tourney. If you want to say a team will only be favored in one game then they will be a second round underdog, that is understandable. But there are multiple teams in the big 10 that are capable of making runs.

Very true, people act like there are tons of high quality college basketball teams out there. That's not the case. There are five or six B10 teams that can make deep tournament runs depending on the matchups.

Yep. The better team might get upset the round before clearing the way for an easier game.

Nailed it. Right now I'd pick the Big 12 or ACC over the B1G but as you said, we won't really know until the tournament starts.

CBS showing highlights of Indiana-Michigan from '93 is another reminder of just how far the talent level in college has fallen since then. The Fab Five for Michigan, Alan Henderson, Calbert Cheaney, Damon Bailey, there just aren't teams like that out there in today's game.

Cheaney's game was awesome. And they manned up on D big time under Knight. Probably had to or Knight would give them a wedgie with their jock strap.

If you listen to Big 12 honks, they like to say how tough their conference is because every team can beat any other conference team, on any given night. But yet, they will then turn around and say the Big Ten isn't as good because the top tier teams are getting beat by the weaker conference teams!?

typical ISU fan logic!

It seems like a couple of the new coaches are sneaking upon some teams. Once the other teams get use to the new northwestern and Minnesota, Nebraska, and Penn State styles it will probably be business as usual. The conference has changed a lot in the last year or two.

Pomeroy will tell you it is that good. Big Ten's worst team is ranked 109, every other conference has teams in the 200's. Big Ten has 5 teams in the top 20, ACC has four, SEC two, PAC 12 two, Big 12 two, Big East two.

Time will tell. Lots if ebbs and flows in basketball. B1G seems pretty solid from top to bottom with almost team able to win on a given day. Its moot what conference is "best"

Yup, at the end of the year every team in the conference could be a top-100 team. That's pretty impressive. So while we may not have a national title team (we may) we have a very deep conference.

Or, there is a lot more balance among college basketball teams currently. Also, there are a lot more good basketball players out there than there have been in the past. Just some alternative thoughts for you to consider...
