Is Stanley a victim of Ferentz fatigue?

I’ve been as critical as others of NS, but his stats really are pretty impressive. I wonder if NS isn’t a victim of BF, and his daddy, and their tired offensive play calling coupled with their risk adverse approach to putting your foot on the gas peddle and attacking defensive weak spots.

Yes, absolutely, and I brought it up in another thread. Stanley with those physical attributes and the right coaching could still carve a niche for himself.

The key question which has been brought up is the way his mind neurologically processes information. If that's defecient, it will get worse in the NFL and he's toast. If someone like, say a Jon Gruden or Andy Reid can flush risk aversion out of him, allow him to just cut it loose and play, possibly a different story.

A QB has to have a short memory. Terry Bradshaw threw three picks in his final super bowl appearance. That didn't stop him from making big time throws in the fourth quarter to Stallworth and Swann to steal a game the defense kept trying to give away.

The Ferentz's have been lacking in hardware (the championship kind) since 2015 (Divisional). 2004 for a Co-BTT Title. Stanley is an extension of that process. So, yes, I think that is a fair assumption.

The fatigue for me is with some of the fans and their unrealistic expectations.

The bottom line is that we have been weak the last few years in the running game and offensive line. We have been strong in the receiving corp whether it be tight ends or receivers. Our running backs have been below average. You add all that up and combine it with a quarterback with a strong arm and very limited mobility, and you have a one dimensional offense.

Today we got out rushed 192-79. Yeah, look at that number again. So how in the hell did we score 19 points and win the game 19-10, let alone the 2 field goal misses. Before you jump in and say the defense, go back and look and tell me exactly how many points the defense has scored this year. Our opponent wasn't a bad team, they beat some other good teams this year so that wasn't a patsy win.

Did Stanley miss a couple throws? Yep. But so did all the past quarterbacks in the Hawkeye past. Hell, I even saw Tom brady under throw a couple balls the other night. Point is that nobody is perfect. So before you rip on Nate, think about what you would expect if someone replaced him. You think I they are going to just step in and now we score 50 a game? That's ridiculous.

Sometimes I think it's mechanics, he had a stretch today where he was throwing everything high. Sometimes he inexplicably doesn't see a wide open receiver, and sometimes his receiver runs the wrong route. His inability to improvise will be a problem at the next level. Stanley is the best QB in the nation between the 30 yard lines but is incredible almost spectacularly terrible inside the 30. Is it Stanley, is it the offense, is it the coaching? Does it matter? There's a reason our kicker has set the record, good for him, bad for the offense. I was hoping for a wildcat option with Peyton this year but that's a big no. Stanley had some great passes today and gutsy runs. He has the backing of his teammates and coaches. You take the good you take the bad. The good thing is the defense just keeps chugging along saving Iowa's butt time after time. I've decided to just roll with it and enjoy the season. The good far outweighs the bad.

Hmmm. They won, as I recall. But to your point - Weiting doesn’t come up with a catch at the goal line and Nate misses Beyer over the middle for another touchdown. Schott moves on third and long pushing the ball back 5 yards which is probably the 5 yards Duncan needs to make his field goal. That’s 17 points left on the field, minimum. Your criticism of the game plan is rote stuff, but not applicable to what happened today.

im not looking at a one game snapshot, I’m looking back over his last 3 years....this year has felt like a grind each week, NS carries the burden but it’s more a KF/BF thing looking at his stats.

Hit big throws at big times and that’s all he needed.

Breaking sacks and throwing lasers against Illinois, Purdue, Rutgers, or ISU rings hollow when you get so rattled that you can’t do it against Penn State, Wisconsin, or Michigan—especially when you’ve had 7 chances to do get it done in 7 games that would have opened the door to a division title.

Against tight coverage, he seems to hang onto the ball. I think it's because of his inconsistent accuracy. In the red zone, we have struggled. Field shrinks, windows get tighter, NS doesn't want to get picked, we settle for FG

The ball to Wieting was behind him. Could he have caught it, probably. Should the ball have been behind him? No. Stanley missed a lot of throws, and he could have put the game out of reach in the first half easily. He had all day to throw yesterday, and was still off target. Nate is big, and has a strong arm. That isn't going to cut it. His footwork, decision making are both bad. He just doesn't process things fast enough, and is nailed to the ground in the pocket. Our lack of rushing attack can be attributed to several things, and one of them is the fact that opposing defenses have nothing to fear with Nate and our passing attack. He simply will not beat anyone consistently over the top throwing the football. I'm not quite sure what exactly KOK is getting paid to do, but it must just be a gift because he is a buddy of KF. He certainly isn't helping Stanley any, that's for sure.

This aged well, in a very short amount of time. Just kind of shows some are so locked into their thinking that they can't even see what played out in front of them this year.

Pretty much this.

Good vs poor competition.
