Is JU worth loosing a scholarship next year?

Jared would fit that bill with the exception of being out of state. He would be a Soph. with 3 years to play.

I don't see it as a loss of scholarship but that of a good get and quality player. I hope the indications are accurate and he becomes a Hawkeye!

From what I've heard his game is similar to a player like White, don't know how good of a motor he has though. One positive of getting him, other than sticking it to Bo, would be that Iowa would get some national pub. The headlines could say "Utoff picks a B1G school in spite of Ryan's restrictions" The national feel is Iowa is on the rise and this would add to that sentiment.

the question isnt meant to be anti-JU, i think he's a nice player. but we have a lot of poles out there fishing for some pretty good players. JU had a shot at Iowa (when we really needed him) if it came down to a slasher ,scorer that we've recruited hard for 2 years or JU,I'd take my chances on the recruit. IN FRAN WE TRUST is what it comes down to.:)

We would get about 20 seconds of national pub, and I think you're overstating the sentiment on Iowa. We already stuck it to Bo when we worked his boys off the court. We don't need to cash in a scholly on a position where we already have 4 players vying for time.

Whats wrong with depth? Mcabe hasn't learned how to play with out fouling consistently and Basabe is a crapshoot on witch one of him will show up and White is a young player. The first two will be Srs when JU can even play with White being a JR. I don't see the problem there at all. If JU is the real deal he'll have 2 yrs to see alot of PT. In this case sticking it to Bo is worth ALOT in the fans eyes more than any. But I think the kid must have some potential cause alot of big time schools wanted him not just us and Wisky originally and Wisky sure isn't happy about losing him.

the kid actually fills a hole that we have...a back up for marble at the 3. he isnt like white...not as athletic or tough down low. he is a perimeter guy even though he is 6'8. maybe fran thinks he can bring in a better 3 man and if he does than dont waste time on ju. but if he accepts ju then i would take it as a sign that he sees ju as a solid cog to add. i feel he would be a great scoring and passing threat to back up marble for a yr at the 3.

Uthoff would join Oglesby,Gesell and Woodbury as the top 150 players on the roster.
Uthoff was offered by Illinois,Indiana,Wis.,ASU,ISU among others coming out of high school.
I think we can find room for him. We lose May after this year, and he can play that position. He is not the kind of rebounder that White is,but he is a better shooter from the arc,and can run/jump close to White. I would not say he is not as athletic, just not as tough inside, probably. But, with another full year of training, who knows? Bo desperately tried to keep him for a reason...he has talent.

On the offensive end, Uthoff is the kind of players that can create mismatches. He is quick, smart (minus going to Wisc) and a great shooter. He is a quality player that will be around for three years, and you know he won't be transferring anywhere else.

until i see that we are able to land highly ranked athletic SF's I do not have a better answer than Uthoff

It may change who we offer with the lone scholarship next year. We have two point guards right now with Marble having played there also. We have young wing players and a couple of players that can play the four and five. We will have a team with depth and flexibility so I'm guessing and athletic two guard is still who we will bring in. The second with be the best 5 position player we can find.

The scuttle of Marble leaving early after this season and you always have a transfer possibility so I see all kinds of value in taking JU.

Pretty sure paying for college, when you're able to get free college, isn't smart.

But it's Iowa, and, heck, with Adam Woodbury, they'll be winning NC's in 2 years.

Probably true, but we have kids in this class choosing Iowa over some other good programs. Then we'd have JU who does it as well as having to pay his way. It would add to the perception of recruits seeing Iowa as an attractive destination. Iowa isn't going to picked to be a contender for the B1G title this year, but it certainly would be noticed by future recruits that another kid who was a top 150 player is choosing Iowa for its style of play.

Let's pretend you're sitting at a table. To your right is three bowls of ice cream. To your left is three bowls of poop. You can have the three bowls of ice cream but you have to pay for the first one, while the three bowls of poop are totally free.

By the logic presented in your post does that mean it's smarter to eat the poop because it's free?

Does your ugly a$$ cardinal and gold butthurt???? I hope he does sign with the Hawks so I can post that he'd rather pay for a year of school and be in IC that go to Lames for free! (fingers crossed):D

One of the side benefits I like is that this is one more step in locking down the instate talent. When Fran got here he made a late push to sign him and just came up short. If he comes here he will have a year to get to know the system and develop in order to prepare for the 2013-14 season.
