First thing that came to my mind was Tiger.
Although, what Tiger did doesn't compare to this scandal.
Plus what Tiger did is hardly unique in professional sports and certainly not the PGA.

Tell that to young moviegoers. Or are people no longer whining about how Hollywood sets such a poor example for America's youth? Idolization is idolization, no matter how you choose to spin it.
And on top of that, we aren't talking about his standing with PSU faithful. As we've seen over the last year, they have had a tough time seeing anything but the past glory. Paterno's fall has come on a more national level, with people who had no such emotional connection to his players.
You are prolly right. Remember that time when thousands of people took to the webz to defend Mel when he got that dui? Or how bout that time hundreds of Braveheart fans showed up at Mels house to cheer him on after he made those anti-semetic remarks?

Which signifies little to no fall at all in the eyes of those supporting him. Those people who rallied outside of JoePa's house weren't there to vilify him. They were there grasping to the old image of Joe, which hadn't changed in their eyes. That's not a sign of a fall from grace. You are prolly right.
