Is it us? Is it Iowa that is the problem?

I have the Michigan - Ohio State basketball game on the Big 10 network. I thought it was interesting that they just said that Michigan was finally getting a practice facility for basketball.

Reggie is a good example as he plays about 20 mpg and contributes. He had to have been the best JUCO transfer that Iowa has ever landed. Hey Lick, feel free to go the JUCO route.

If it was all about the facilities, then what is the secret at Minnesota? How about KU with Allen Fieldhouse? Or Duke with Cameron?

Anyone could do better than Lickliter. His system will not work against teams who run the ball up and down the floor. If he would practice this once in awhile maybe our players would know how to react when somebody actually plays basketball the way it should be. It is not a game you walk the ball up the court.

The facilities don't help, but there are lots of midmajors that have been better than ISU and Iowa the last few years that have WAY worse facilities. There are a lot of major conference teams that don't have any better facilities either. It contributes but to be as bad as ISU and Iowa have been the last few years can't be placed all on the buildings.

Time to start from scratch and admit your hiring mistakes. The Iowa BB program is the worst team I have ever seen and it will remain so until serious changes occur.

-------------------------------------------- This line is as high as a program can get
---Duke
---North Carolina
---Kansas

----- Iowa (under Alford)
-----Iowa State

--------------------------------------------- This line represents mediocrity

----- Iowa (under Lickliter)

------------------------- This is as low as a program gets. The worst of the worst.

A program doesn't just have that big of a jump from a little above average to near bottom. It's not the facility's fault, it's the coach.

Hey, is there a chance Kirk Ferentz knows anything about basketball? Maybe he could coach. He might do better than Lickliter.

Weren't we trying to run KF out of town after a few "mediocre" seasons.....I wonder what happened that stopped all that....

WINNING!

It comes down to being competative first (iowa is struggling to do this) and the second thing is wining consistently.... If a coach does those things he will probably have a decent shot at keeping his job. It's a double edged sword, once you start wining consistently fans want more (not saying it's realistic always).... Ask Mr. Davis about that!

He won consistently, fans wanted more than consistent NCAA tournament apperances and he was not offered a contract extension. I think with where the program was it was not unrealistic to think about taking the next step. Hignsight is 20/20.......

Exaclty......but he had already taken us to the Orange Bowl and fans still wanted him gone. My point is that "fans" jump all over a coach if they aren't meeting expectations fair, or unfair. They are called "fairweather".

Why are fans fairweather when they have the best interest in the team in mind? Stupid maybe, but not fair weather.
