Is Iowa Turning Into D-Back U?

We've heard TE U for some time now. Iowa has had a great run of producing great cornerbacks and safeties over the past several years. Iowa just got a recent recruit out of Florida that committed without even visiting campus. This shows the respect he has for the Iowa coaches and how they develop talent. Here is a quote from him below.

“I love how Iowa runs their program. They play as a family. They also have a great DB coach and defensive coordinator (Parker), who produces great DBs,” Oladokun said.

Its about damn time recruits start figuring out how good Phil Parker is at developing DBs.

Look at the list of guys that had at least some NFL playing time the last 20 years. Bowen, Pagel, Sanders, Considine, Godfrey, Fletcher, Sash, Spievey, Hyde, King, Jackson. Soon Ojemudia and Stone.I'm probably forgetting a couple guys, too. What's really impressive about Parker is that none of these guys were highly rated coming out of high school. Think what Parker could do with some 4 and 5 star guys.

While I appreciate your love for the Hawkeyes and I agree our defensive staff does a great job with what they get on the recruiting trail, here is the reality.
Current NFL rosters DBs by schools
Florida 12
Alabama Miami and Texas 10
LSU Florida State Ohio State and Michigan 9
Penn State 8
Clemson 7
Iowa Auburn USC and Utah 6

Jim Thorpe Award winners the last 10 years
LSU 3

We have a ways to go before we are in that conversation. I do appreciate your bleeding black and gold, but sometimes we need to remember there are 129 other college teams that play FBS football, too.

They are on the rise as a top tier program for that position but in no way Dback U.

I think they produce some of the smartest and fundamentally sound Dbacks in the nation but The difference in talent as opposed to Ohio State in the same conference is still a lot.

One dback alumni that is really fun to read and listen to is Bowen. He is really good at explaining the game

........and you listed the top teams and Iowa comes in tied for around 10th.

Oh, and Iowa had 1 Jim Thorpe winner the past decade. Not bad out of 129 schools.

Actually 11th and yes 1 Jim Thorpe winner but 8 different schools can claim that same award in the last decade. What makes Iowa so special beyond it’s your favorite team?

The commit from Tampa had two total offers from that list of schools I put above, Iowa and Penn State. No other offers from any schools from that list. I guess I need you to produce facts, statistics, or data to prove your original title of this thread. If it is your opinion that’s fine but don’t be surprised when someone produces information to disprove your opinion when it is, at best, a reach of a claim.

I'm not really arguing that Iowa should be called DB U. My point was that Iowa and Phil Parker do more with less than the schools you listed. Those schools are bringing in multiple 4 and 5 star DBs every year. They SHOULD have a lot more players in the NFL than Iowa. I challenge anyone to find a school or coach that has put more 2 and 3 star players in the NFL over an extended period of time than Phil Parker.

Kinda feels like we are. Like most of our recruits, we are developing under the radar type guys into pros. I remember in first decade under KF we put a lot of safeties in the NFL

kinda seems like it. And many we have put in NFL were under-recruited guys. I remember in first decade under KF he put a lot of safeties in NFL

Then you and I agree.

Parker is the most under rated DB/Dcoordinater in college football. Hands down. Iowa is so fortunate that he had no aspirations of climbing the coaching ladder any higher because he very easily could have. The guy knows how to develop kids and get the best out them. No short cuts or favors. Think about this. He had a 5 star kid like AJE sit for 2 yrs and play situationally (when he easily could have been starting) But he knew he had room to improve and that it was best for the TEAM for Hesse to be in there more at the time. And how he's juggled LBs and DBs he just pushes all the right buttons with his depth chart that we'd be nuts to second guess him much at this point...
