they are moving in the right direction in a way that didn't seem possible a month ago. i'm sure lickliter would be the first to tell you that they are not "back" to the level he is aiming for.

the next three home games will be interesting: ohio state, illinois, northwestern. winning all three would be amazing but even winning two would be another step in the right direction. winning one would be treading water, and if they go oh-fer then i think they're back to where they were when they got spanked by UNI and ISU.

at this point i think the over/under for conference play should be 6-12. winning the first round conference tournament game would also be a good benchmark. i don't imagine anyone thinks they're going to break out and win 8 or 9 of the last 11, but they are definitely putting a better product on the court and they need to sustain that momentum.

Very well said!!!

I agree with the prevailing sentiment, we aren't back yet but we seem to be turning the corner. I didn't watch the game so really can't comment too much (yet) but based on the box score it appeared that Cougill played some quality minutes. Is his back feeling better (lol)

I thought Iowa played well today. I really thought the Hoosiers might win easily. Iowa has made big strides since the opening weeks of the Big Ten. They seem to have some confidence and are reacting better to pressure defense. Is Iowa basketball back? I don't think so, but at least they are not headed over the cliff.

another way to answer the question: they are definitely "back" to being a team that plays hard and is fun to watch. that was not always the case this year or in years past (and i include some of the alford years there). i really hope people show up to carver wednesday. i wish i was still in iowa; i would be there for sure.

One step at a time, Ryno. Iowa basketball is better now than it was two weeks ago, but it's a long, long way from being "back" as far as I'm concerned.

I'll be in Iowa City for the Ohio State game rooting for them to take another small step. I hope everyone else will try to make it, too.

HawkPredator are you blind? Iowa is a very young team that is getting better. Indiana has been playing great basketball and has defeated several quality teams.

There is a lot to get excited about - wake up!!

I love Iowa and Support Lick and his young players.. The bottomline is Iowa isn't back. We are on the slow track to being good. Iowa is young?? lol. Just kidding I know that.

I'm very excited about this team and those coming in. The bottomline is that Iowa isn't back.

The great thing is we will all know when Iowa Basketball is back. :) How fun is that going to be.

Hope... I think this is the key word for a lot of frustrated fans. I think most fans may not expect us to fully turn the corner this season but want to see some hope and some improvement and I for one have gotten that hope from the last few games.

Indiana isn't a good team unless being "good" in college basketball is a below .500 team (9-10 thanks to the Hawks).

Indiana has not been playing great baskeball. They are 5-5 over the last 10.

The only quality teams they have beaten are Pittsburgh (a very good team with a 14-RPI) and Minnesota (62-RPI). The only two wins against Top 100-RPI.

Have the Hawks been playing better lately? Definitely. Any time the Hawks can win at Indy, it is a good win and something to be excited about. We all know that very good Iowa teams that haven't won there.

Beating Indiana and losing a close game to MSU doesn't mean the program is "back".

I would vote No...but just because there is no "Turning the corner" I truly was in the camp that it may be time to cut our losses with Lick. But after Fuller came back we are starting to play consistently pretty well...We're looking like the team I thought we should look like at this point in the rebuild. IF we keep making progress through the end here and :gasp: win a game or two at the BTT. I'm thinking this team could contend for a postseason bid next year...with NCAA's year after when Gatens is a senior.

I'm beginning to get a 2001 PSU football game feeling...where it feels like the team may have just made the turn.

I will say we are "back" when we make the NCAA Tournament again. Let's not forget that we used to make the NCAA's 2 out of every 3 years at least. The Alford era was the start of a decline in that department, and we're yet to see a .500 overall record since the Lickliter hire. In a year or two, hopefully we can all agree that we are back.

Back to what?

Beating not very good teams?
A winning record?
Top tier of Big10?
NIT?
March Madness 3 of every 4 years?
Sweet 16 1 of every 4 years?

Only 1 of those can be answered "YES" so the overall answer is "NO"

But it was a good win because it was a road win and it was at Indiana.

Exactly. Back to what?

Back to selling every seat in CHA?
Back to having ESPN and CBS cover our games because they are important?
Back to students wanting to go to the games?
Back to being able to ask, "Did you watch the Hawkeyes last night?" and the other person actually knowing they played?
Back to wondering how many seniors will be drafted by the NBA?
Back to beating teams so badly that we can't wait to watch the grey shirts play the last two minutes of games?
Back to going to agame in CHA even though there was 1" of ice on the roads, because you didn't want to miss a game?

When the excitement is back, then Iowa basketball is back. We're making progress, but we're not "back."

Agree 100%! Watched old highlights of BJ, Roy and Ed and we are so far from that era... Can you believe we were actually a Pre Season #1 in the country?

I say yes in the sense that the program is taking steps in the right direction.

By no means are we even close to the great times in the 80's and 90's but I visibly see progress and the thought of adding 4 more capable bodies to this roster seems intriguing.

I've been very critical of Lick and his proram and have been categorized as a Lick-Hater. I still have some concerns about style of play but am now willing to be patient and let things play out. This is bottom and can only get better so why start over now again ? If the fan-base will support this team and we get a couple of breaks will might be solid again.

I do think this team will struggle again during this season because it is young and many are inexperienced.
