Is Fran McCaffery the BigTEN Coach of the Year?

I think had they not lost to MN and NW he's a shoe in for coach of the year. However I think it would be hard to not give it to Turgeon. Maryland is brand new to the conference and he finishes 2nd place and beats Wisconsin to boot. Pretty impressive

Painter might have got it if they finished 3rd by themselves because no one was expecting this from them.

I would vote for Fran

I see it as 3 possible candidates right now with Fran, Painter, & Turgeon being the 3. Who gets it I'm not sure. I'd say Turgeon probably leads the way though. Undefeated at home during Big Ten play and only one home loss all season being Virginia.

Let's wait and see how the BTT plays out and the Big Dance as we could see national coach of the year if Iowa does well in the NCAA. That's one advantage Iowa should have with it's depth is the ability to play and win two games with in days of each other.

Lol, I liked what Fran said after the game about losing white. He said he will have to be a better coach next year with White gone. :)

Fran, Painter, Turgeon and, yes, Bo Ryan are the top four choices, IMO. And like it or not, I say Turgeon or Painter. Turgeon comes in and has a great first year, Painter has a very nice turnaround from last season. Fran has turned us around, but from last year to this year he hasn't excelled to the degree Painter has.

And I really want Purdue in the BTT, don't care WHICH day it is.

Talk amongst yourselves......

I'm still a bit Verklempt after that really AWESOME Win at Carver, today

Not sure how you could vote for him based off beating a ****** Northwestern team, especially since Northwestern already beat a Fran coached team.
After Nick and that guy who is pretending to be a UNI fan have taken over the site it has sucked and I've stayed away, so I don't know if you're a troll or not. If you truly think that somebody deserves coach of the year after beating Northwestern then you are either a troll or the stupidest person in the world. They are not a good team.

As an intelligent, careful analyst, whose depth of basketball knowledge is nearly bottomless, and with no pre-conceived notions and not a bit of bias, I do not see any choice but Franny Mac!

I think I would go with Bo. His team is just at a different level than any other team in the league.

Painter or Fran imo. Neither was expected to have great years, heck even HN was very doubtful in making the Tourney.

Wisc and Maryland were supposed to both be very good this year. Although I would say Turgeon has done a fantastic jon.

Why has coach of the year seemingly gone to the surprise guy? Bo Ryan won the BIG outright and lost his starting PG. IMO he deserves it. If not Bo then Turgeon who also had a shot at the title with a young team

Painter. Purdue finished in last place last year. Purdue's turn-around is most impressive.

To me, the COY should go to the coach who does the most with the least amount of talent. The guy whose team exceeds all expectations.

But it seems that almost no one else looks at it that way. The team that wins the conference will also have the COY and the league MVP. Bo Ryan & Frank Kominsky. Done deal.

My pick would be Painter.

Frans prolly 3rd or 4th. Bo is pretty deserving yet he'll get overlooked. My guess is MDs coach or Purdues gets it. If Iowa doesn't lose to NW or MN that changes everything for not only this award....

I can't say Bo Ryan deserves it. Where was Wisconsin picked this year? First. Where did they finish? First. How can a COY meet expectations? Shouldn't a COY exceed expectations? I'd give it to either Turgeon, who did very well in Maryland's first year in the league considering they were predicted to be 8th by the Big 10 sportswriters. Or, I'd give it to Painter who has exceeded expectations as Purdue was picked by the Big 10 sportwriters to finish 11th.

The hawks had a nice season, but they finished exactly where most predicted they would finish. They did not overachieve with the roster they have...which is a very upperclassmen dominated team.

Purdue overachieved. Wisc is a top 5 team. Michigan's coach did the most with less. Maryland overachieved. All four of those coaches did a better coaching job than Fran this year, just sayin.

Bo Ryan. And it kills me to say it.

Feel exactly the same. Like it or not the Badgers are head and shoulders above everyone else in the BIG. They just do everything really well, defense, half court offense, 3 point shooting, free throw shooting you name it the Badgers do it all and do it all really well. Dang that really sucks having to admit all of that about the Badgers, if you know me at all you know how much I dislike Bo Cryin and his band of whiners but give credit where credit is due!
