Is enthusiasm for Iowa Football low on this board?

I am trying to stay guarded for now. I think Iowa will have a lot better season than most expect, I am guessing 8-9 wins, but I am going to wait until after the Iowa State game to go all-in.

The problem is that Iowa Football is like a hot chick. The anticipation is amazing, but the result is, well, you know.

Then I guess 2015 was the double blind date your friend begged you to go on. You go out of loyalty to be his wing man and then you find out the girl you got set up with is pretty hot.

I think over time the KF model of football takes its toll on fans. While we have some new blood on the staff, we've gone through this a 3rd time now and it's difficult to see how KF changes.

there is that hope that the only person who could open the offense up is BF, but do we really have any proof of this? While most of us aren't wanting a spread offense, we'd be happy if we just made enough changes in tendencies so we weren't so freaking predictable.

We don't have a returning QB with experience, and only one WR who's caught a pass in college. So we're looking at a slow start to the season and again the formula of relying on defense.

We could see even more conservative play calling.

I'm excited for football but I still have visions of Greg Davis' 3 yard 'downfield' passing attack burned into my brain. I need to see that BF/O'Keefe take a different play calling approach before I really get on board. FWIW I would have almost zero interest in this season if Davis was still here calling plays.

No lack of it from me anyway. I should probably pace myself but I'm fired up as it gets for the start of the season. With media days upon us hopefully more of us posters will be too. I describe myself as cautiously optimistic. I see a team that can be dominant in the run game. Absolutely dominant. But if the passing game is mediocre that will affect the running game too and to me that is the question. How soon will the offense under BF and either Stanley or Wiegers get in synch? Iowa's notoriously gotten off to slow starts and seem to want to show as little as possible early on. I'd love to see that change. They Fry days of absolutely destroying the lessor team seem to be long gone. I'd love to see us not play to the level of competition anymore. (except those of similar level)

That was it. Great...until the MSU game stomped me in the nuts.

It's only July, man. The calls for KF's firing and promoting the backups to starters will be here before you know it.

Message boards are dying.
The poll a while back indicated that about 1/2 are concerned about concussions and that does temper enthusiasm.
The last bowl game was ugly.

I'm expecting a season that can't be predicted.

Well I'm among the other 1/2 of message board users that ARE NOT concerned about getting a concussion. just the same I wear a helmet when I'm online.

I sure hope that last year's early defensive alignment problems which resulted with for run defense is taken care of at the start of this season. Wyoming has that good QB coming back so need to get a pass rush established by end of August. If hawks do those things on defense and get the passing game even to average they should win the first 3 games.

While Wyoming QB is good, everyone is ignoring the fact that he also lost his top 2 WRs, top TE, and All-Conference starting RB. I mean this would be something that could make a difference going against one of the Big Ten's best defenses.

Is it just me? It seems like there should be more anticipation for the upcoming season by posters on this board? I am fairly excited and I know others who are as well. But there really doesn't seem to be much in the terms new posts on this board talking about the upcoming season.

Thoughts? Am I imagining things?

Just waiting for the summer hangover to clear from our heads and then the boys and I will all start hating the the 5-7 season right along with the rest of you.

If GD was still here I would have mild interests in the upcoming season. With KOK back as QB coach and BF as the offensive coordinator we should see what should be a new offensive scheme. So my interest is some what peaked with some reservations. You can drop a new engine into a roadster but if the guy driving the car never takes it out of second gear then all you get is a lot of noise with little results.

I hoping to see what fourth gear looks like this season.

The O-line and running game should be good. Losing King and CJ are probably the biggest concerns but I think the young corners showed some promise as did Stanley. I know Brian still has to prove himself as an OC but Davis set the bar pretty low so I personally think we'll see an improvement.

For all these reasons, I'm optimistic and I kind of expect a 7 win team at minimum. I think it's a 7-9 win team.
