Is Derek Rose the Worst NBA MVP?

The counter argument for that is that the main reason for the Bulls improvement this season was their defense which is the best in the NBA. And by any defensive metric, their defense is considerably better when Rose is not on the floor.

I really have no problem with him winning the award though. It was down to him, LeBron and D-Howard, and there was no way LeBron was winning the award this season unless the Heat won 70 and he averaged a triple double. Orlando regress this year so it's hard to give it to him and the Bulls had the league's best record and Rose set the tone, so I have no issue with him winning it. He's at least as deserving as Nash was of his 2 MVPs.

One good season and you are already predicting this? Pretty bold statement. Maybe one of the best offensive guards, but overall best point guard in the history of the league? Come on

Have you seen the Dallas Mavericks roster? If Rose goes down, Chicago still has an elite defensive team that crashes the offensive boards extremely well and would at least be in contention for the playoffs. If Dirk goes down, the Mavericks are a lottery team
 
The Bulls homerism is STRONG in here. Best point guard ever? Really???

Just because he is the best offensive player on the best team doesn't automatically make him the most valuable. As some have pointed out, they won because of defense. Rose is not the reason their defense stops people. They have 4 good big guys, multiple wing defenders, and a solid coach.

I will let my Magic homerism come out to play for a minute. If you want to talk most valuable, how is that not Dwight Howard? The guy has won the defensive POY 3 times in a row, averaged 23 and 14 with 2.5 blocks a game, and doesn't win because his "story" isn't as good. The Magic were near the top of the league in defense with one decent defender on their whole team. Take Howard away and they couldn't stop Lickliters Hawks. The Bulls without Rose would still be able to win some games in the weak East with their superior defense.

There is no other player in the league that remotely compares to Howard (you could probably make that argument for LeBron or Dirk too). Bynum and Yao can't stay healthy, Noah can't score, Bogut is a worse FT shooter than Howard, Gasol is soft, Duncan is old, Cousins is crazy. You could easily make the case that Chris Paul is better than Rose. Guys like Westbrook, Rondo, or Williams are at or near his level.

Just because he can make the flashy athletic plays and scores a bunch of points doesn't mean he is the greatest ever. I don't hate the Bulls or Rose at all, I just think people need to calm down a little bit.
 
Clearly,the center position is weak in the league right now,and Howard is the class of that bad bunch.
Point guard,on the other hand,is the strongest position in the league right now.
So the fact that there are a lot of great pgs right now does not take away from DRose's excellence. He has dominated the pgs matchups this year when facing off against Paul,Williams,Westbrook,Kidd,and Rondo. He has separated himself from the rest in the strongest position in the league...nuff said.
 
Basketball does not lend itself well to sabremetrics,like baseball. Hollinger is obsessed with numbers. Those who watch the actual games made the right call,by a landslide,voting for Rose. If he was a shaky candidate, the voting would have been close,but it was not.
