Is 9 days off too much?

I hope we don't lose any of the momentum we had. That seems like an awfully long break at this point of the season.

No, I think it will be beneficial with as many games as they have played in a short time. Fran has said as much. You can work on other things rather than just preparing for the next team I think is what he said.

No...this team started playing very well after it's last extended break during finals. (between the ISU and Drake games I believe). Let's hope they can make the same type of improvement from this layoff.

I think the team will be fine as it gives Fran a chance to work on some wrinkles in the middle of the season.

As for me, I feel like I'm going through withdrawal. Haven't felt that way about Iowa Basketball in a very long time.

1. If Basabe was indeed hampered by an injury in the past couple games, then this comes at exactly the right time. Momentum or not, we weren't going to continue winning with Basabe being invisible on a nightly basis. We need him, and anyone else who may be dinged up, at 100% for the stretch run.

2. It allows guys to really work on some things that need extra attention, rather than solely worrying about the next opponent.

It sucks as a fan, especially since this team is worth cheering for. But it's good for the team.

i hope they hire jet li to show how to jump high and how to bodyslam during 9 days offf and light up incenses and bow to buddha and shave off your head . and mediate with your kneee spread open.

I is almost like a mid-season ''lite-month''....they only have 5 games in the 30 days starting after Jan 17 to Feb 16. I am ok with a week off right now,but 9 days is pushing it. And I wish the scheduled was staggered better. From Feb 16- March 4 they have 6 games in 16 days. It is a weirdly spaced schedule.

Just have to hope they get healthy, and then stay healthy for the last push for those 6 games in the last couple of weeks.

Most coaches would tell you they like this sort of a break in season because it allows them to teach and work on fundamentals that have been lacking. It's also a nice chance for some players to get healthy.

Now, the really good teams, you may not want a break...but I think this is good for Iowa, and having Nebraska as the 'shake your rust off' opponent, at home, is a nice set up, too

Illinois took a similar long break last week, and had a nice tune-up game against Penn St. to thicken their lead in the conference.

Ooops!

Sometimes I wonder what planet you live on.

9 days off is just what this team needs now. Basabe needs time to heal.
The rest of the team needs FT practice.

I think players respond differently to these breaks. I think the team as a whole needed this break. I think Fran is a great coach, and he will have them ready.

Most coaches would say they like 9 days off in the middle of the conference season? Ya, I don't agree with that at all. If there is one thing coaches love it is getting out of the routine they have established all season.

We had lost 3 out of 4 so I doubt it's that big of a momentum killer. I think the break came at the right time. As JM said, the chance to get healthy is the biggest asset of this break.
