Is 7-5 overall record a good year?

If we make a bowl game I am happy. We get the extra practice time and a little pub for the program. We tread a little water as we get some better athletes on the roster in the next few years.

I don't think the Big 10 is down this yr, I think we got a huge break not playing Whisky, After the past 12 years with Coach Ferentz we have to win all the close games to have a 10 win special season, usually it comes down to a quaterback ( Banks,Stanzi,) making huge 4th quarter plays, last yr we had none, this yr we had one so far(pitt), we had chances against PSU but misfired several times,

I think they are down a little. Losses to teams like North Texas, North Dakota St., and Army don't help the conference rep much. Not a lot of big non-con wins either.

agree with you, but Mich and Wisc. are both better and OSU is definately down, you can argue outside of LSU and Bama the Sec is down, Outside of OKie and Okie State the Big 12 is down also, I actually hate saying this but I hope Sconny goes undefeated and gets a chance to play Okie, Lsu or Bama.

What about Joe Pa? does anyone else think he returns?

We've won 8, 11, and 9 games over the past three years. 28-11 in that span with three straight bowl wins. Mark D'Antonio is about to get a huge contract extension for an inferior record with zero bowl wins. Our athletic department is one of the only ones in the country to be entirely self-supporting and generate a profit, thanks in large part to our football program.

I'm upset that we lost, but let's keep some perspective. I'd also like to remind folks how Joe Paterno was getting savaged on this board five days ago. Look farther back, and you'll Hawkeye fans in love with Mike Stoops, Paul Rhodes, Pat Fitzgerald, and every other flavor of the month coach who has beaten Iowa. Look at how those guys have performed over the long haul and tell me who is more successful.
living in the past. its all about, "what have you done for me lately".

As for the record, if we finish with 7 wins, HUGE disappointment considering the teams in the B1G this year. One good team, two decent teams, and 8 bad teams.

7-5 means Iowa beats one of the following (NU, UM, MSU, UN) as well as wins all the games in which the team should be clearly favored.

As of right now, the Hawks are favored against NU. So, that might be the best shot to reach that 7-5 mark.

Unless, MacMillan gets back on the field as a starter by the end of the season, I don't see Iowa getting to 7-5. Beyond that, 6-6 would require that the team win a couple of road games against inferior opponents, which it has not been able to do yet this season.

Obviously I'll be disappointing because I always want the hawks to be good and win. I would take it this year and play in a bowl game and hopefully pick up a win there. I would rather them go 7-5, win a bowl game than go 9-2 and get slaughtered in the bowl game, call me crazy but I like the season to end on a high note, helps ease the woes of winter in Iowa.

Fans have short memories, it's all about what have you done for me lately. Do you think this athletic department will continue to be self-sustaining and profitable if they keep putting a team on the field only capable of 7-5 or 6-6 and continue to raise ticket prices? I have a sense that fans (including myself) are done paying ticket prices which reflect a top tier program when we are losing to teams like ISU, Minnesota, and NW year in and year out. I could give two turds about beating Maine and Louisanna Monroe each year.

We've won 8 of our last 10 against Minnesota and 6 of our last 9 against Iowa State. Obviously Northwestern is the exception, but it hardly proves the rule. We've also taken 4 of the last 7 against Wisconsin, and 9 of 13 from Michigan State. I can't find the numbers on Michigan but they are pretty strong. The real bugaboos are Ohio State, Northwestern, and (oddly) Indiana.

yeah with that logic, we won 8 out of last 10 against PSU.... that didnt work out in our favor. still living in the past Hayden.

Man, some of you should work for Fox News. Just keep repeating things over and over and somebody will buy them as facts. Losing year in and year out to Minnesota and Iowa State?

Come on now. We've owned those b*tches and you know it.

I know you all are upset we didn't open up the offense Saturday, and I am too.

But let's not start slinging the bullsh*t against the wall and see what sticks.

ISU? Minnesota? The one employing Tim Brewster? Owning Iowa year in and year out?

Come on, dude. Lock it up.

I think 8 wins is a good benchmark...anything about that is fantastic and anything below that is a disappointment

Is consistent 16-15 or 17-14 type basketball seasons mixed in with a 25-6 season here and there good enough for our basketball coaches?

7-5 is not a good year, nor was last year's 8-4 record with all the NFL talent on that team. Last year really demonstrated just how bad Iowa's game day coaching really is.....namely awful!! Iowa will be lucky to finish 6-6 this year with the way things are going.

I'd sign up for 7-5 right now after watching our soft d line attempt to clog holes up the middle.
