Iowa's White wants Hawkeyes to be more intense

So are NBA teams

Sure, but those teams aren't necessarily built the same way the WU team was. White's definitely a very good player, even if he's limited in some aspects. I still don't think he's actually a top 20 player in college ball, but he's still good.

I'll say it because I'm a broken record on this point...I agree White isn't a top 20 player but is a very good player. But, if he does bring a mid-range game this season, he's easily a top 20 player. He averaged almost 13 ppg on free throws and fast breaks. All he has to do is make 3 mid-range jumpers a game and he's at 20 points ppg in the B1G. As it stands right now, a good but not dominant player.

Aaron Gordon can not shoot at all. Blake griffin couldn't shoot. Does anybody remember eric snow for MSU shooting 25% as a freshman and 50% the next couple years. I believe he led the NBA in FT shooting at one point..... My point is that a jumper will continue to develop, especially when a guy starts to put 100% of his attention into it instead of stuff like school. I argued with my buddy who is a writer about Aaron Gordon going so high in the draft and not being even a decent shooter. He said "it doesn't even matter in the NBA, all those guys are looking for is upside".... Dante Exum is a lottery pick and no one has even seen him play. It's all about potential going to the next level. If a team likes his effort, athletic ability, and potential, they will teach him to shoot.

Exactly and to a lessor degree it's why Marble is getting a shot. He has the NBA body and athleticism and he has room to fill out more and get better. He's by no means a finished product basketball wise either. He showed the last couple years that he can handle the ball and at times get hot and put the ball in the hole. So he'll get a long look. Shooting isn't the strength of his game either but he could certainly get better enough at it to carve out an NBA career.

Intensity, that's always good...but I think Iowa's problems had a lot more to do with failures/lack of half court sets, I think the "collapse" last season was BIG teams just figured out Iowa's niche...take away the transition baskets...body them up and the Hawks are beat, Fran really needs to try to install some sort of a new/functional half court offense...If you want to go all in on tempo basketball...then you HAVE TO PRESS whenever possible.

Yes, this is correct... If Fran cannot figure out a half court offense, other than the "dribble drive", then we are doomed. The B1G conference has us figured out. That doesn't mean Iowa can't win a significant amount of games. But without a half court game, we will not be a top team in this league. Period.

The entire team needs to be extremely motivated and intense, especially nearing the end of close games. The experience of losing the game in the last two minutes should gain the team valuable experience, that and the humiliation of the late season fade....

I just have a strong feeling that we will be a better team and perhaps Fran's best at Iowa. He is building it with passion and intensity and intelligence.....

How long is it until November.....

We have some serious opponents in the preconference and will need all the Lads ready to rip it up......

I don't disagree with anything you just said, but this doesn't really explain why the team totally stopped playing DEFENSE the last 7-8 games of the season, which was maybe the biggest problem down the stretch.

And to press, you'd better recruit some athletes, otherwise your opponents will have lay up drills all game long.

It also wouldn't hurt to be more consistent on the outside shot (making it, and defending it). All too many times last year, Iowa would make 3-4 threes in a game, and our opponents 8-10. Iowa usually lost those games.

The issue with the outside shot comes down to athleticism on the perimeter. MG, Josh and Jok are not great on rotation.
