Intensity, that's always good...but I think Iowa's problems had a lot more to do with failures/lack of half court sets, I think the "collapse" last season was BIG teams just figured out Iowa's niche...take away the transition baskets...body them up and the Hawks are beat, Fran really needs to try to install some sort of a new/functional half court offense...If you want to go all in on tempo basketball...then you HAVE TO PRESS whenever possible.
sarcasm my friend. I think AW is one of the best players in the country but you'd never know it by reading the comments of Iowa fans on him.
it's beyond ridiculous and something AW works on every single day. By reading Hawk message boards ya get the feeling a lot of peeps think we'd be better off with out him because of the old mid range shot.

Exactly. Getting sick of it.
HH, I'm not trying to be confrontational, here, but I feel it is very valid when Hawks fans describe the definciency in White's game; namely, his lack of a mid-range game. It is a glaring and obvious thing and it cost us potentially many, many points last season in our half court sets that perhaps could have helped change how the Hawks finished down the stretch. Having said that, I haven't read where anyone has stated anything to the effect that White is NOT working on his mid-range game. However, it disappeared after his FR season. That is two seasons without it and so it is logical to wonder how much of it will return.
For those who say White needs to work on his mig-range game (and I do see folks state that if he does become proficient in that part of his game, they feel he'll be unstoppable), it is more constructive criticism than negativity. Perhaps this topic has become the proverbial "beating a dead horse" topic, but I wouldn't believe there are any Hawk fans rooting against White. Moreso, we know White can be the key to a very good team, next season. But there are two seasons worth of proof that what White needs to do to be that unstoppable force, isn't there. I believe he is more than capable.
ibahawkeye said:I'm not all that excited by this comment. I don't believe Aaron is that talented of an offensive player so I'm not exactly thrilled with the thought of him being more aggressive.
I am not trying to start something but statements like one of the best in the country catch my attention. If that were true then he would be in the top 3 at his position in the country and would be drafted into the pros right now instead of a 3rd team all B1G in one of the 5-6 power conferences in basketball. An all-B1G selection is a great accomplishment but 3rd team is not one of the best in the country. He has some holes in his game that he is working to improve.
He has been an excellent player for us and I am excited with the idea of seeing him back at the four this season.
I doubt there are many, if any, Iowa fans that root against him. His midrange shot was his only glaring downside the last couple years. Just read a few of the comments in the other White threads and you will see what I'm talking about . Here's just one from the 'Aaron White - Please Be True' thread:
I agree that most Iowa fans are knowledgable enough and realize his midrange jumper has been holding him back and they aren't saying things that make it seem that he doesn't work on it. But there are people out there who act like what he was is what he will be and we have seen it all from him. I just believe that most of our senior players take a solid step between their junior and senior years and step it up. No reason to think otherwise with White.
Okay, point taken. I guess I've seen those kinds of comments or fast forwarded through them because they aren't accurate. White clearly has talent and he clearly can shoot from 15 ft (he's an 85% ft shooter for folks who need proof), so I believe his "j" will come around. If it does, he could be the best player in the B1G. If not, then he'll be what he has been and that is a good player, but not a player that can carry a team for stretches.
Kevin Durant Skills Academy is described as the "top college and high school wings in the country"
Lebron James Skills Academy is described as the "nations top 80 high school players and top 20 college players"
The USA Men's World University game is a roster of 12 best players in the country.
Hey may be 3rd team All-B1G because he didn't have that monster Junior year statistic wise that some expected, but get with the program Hawk fans, Aaron White is one of the best players in the country. He does lack a jumper and there are holes in his game, but good god people, appreciate what ya got.
So are NBA teamsYour point regarding the KD and LBJ skills academies stands, but the WU thing doesn't necessarily do so. Being one of the best players and making a team are two different things. Marble was a better player last year, but White was a better fit for what the team was looking for. No different than the US hockey team in 1980; you're not looking for the best players, you're looking for the right ones.
