Iowa's most important game

Losing to ISU wouldn't be as embarrassing as losing to Minnesota for a 3rd year in a row. I do love how Rhodes came out and said ISU is a stepping stone for him. lol

That is quite embarassing. I think hopefully we will be okay this year because we play Minnesota at home, on homecoming, and most importantly... It is my birthday weekend. Good things happen on my Birthday.

There is no "most important" game when we get only 12. They're all important.

I'm on board with this mentality. One 'flat' game, and your season could be changed dramatically. Look at 2010. Even with all the disappointment in that season, the Hawks are 9-4 if they show up with a friggin' pulse at Minnesota. No Hawk fan should be in the habit of chalking up 'sure wins,' but that was about as sorry of a game as any of us have seen, and Iowa still was in a position to win with a defensive stop. That Minnesota team was bad, but they were the difference between a 9-4 team that had tough losses to some great teams plus the obligatory Northwestern loss, versus an 8-5 team that was the most disappointing modern Iowa team.

If Iowa is 3-2 after the first five this year, it will be very tough sledding to get to bowl eligibility.

Some of you are missing the point of the thread. Yeah the coaches and the players need to have that attitude of one game at a time. But we are just fans, look at the schedule and give your opinion on the most important game. It is a given those first 5 games are huge, they have got to win them all but the most important game will be that Michigan State game.

You cant sit here and say that in May or June. How important will that MSU game be if we have already lost 3 or 4 games when we get there?

The most important game today, June 1st, is NIU at Soldier Field.

I think fans sometimes can benefit, too, from taking the season one game at a time. We don't need to focus like the players do, but it helps the psyche to not frame what our most important game is on assumptions of prior victories. Ohio State was going to be our most important game in 2010 until we lost to Arizona, then Wisconsin, then Northwestern.

Combining our thought processes a little, though, I would say Minnesota if I had to pick one. Get some of the D-line youngsters four games under their belt, and get off and running in conference play. Not saying MSU is not important, but any road wins this year (other than maybe Indiana) will be bonuses. If we lose to Minny (again), then we NEED to beat MSU to avoid an 0-2 start. If we beat Minny, we'll still want the MSU win, of course, but I wouldn't then classify it as critical.

The best thing Iowa has going is that shouldn't have to show much thru the first five games and the team builds experience and confidence. It won't be easy for mich st and others to game plan having two new coaches. Considering in past years you could game an for Iowa hungover and asleep.

Not true. We showed last year we can lose to ISU and Minny. Those games are not cakewalks that the Hawks can just skate through using their base packages.

Minnesota- if they lose to them three times in a row the NCAA should ban sports at Iowa for five years. Or until they fire KF.

For what it stands for considering the last two seasons this one should be near the top. If at least just to put them back in their place and get the pig back home.

Minnesota and iowa are games that should be won for Kirk Ferentz's sake. Its not good for a man to lose to those two programs so consistently.
