Iowa's Depth Chart for Minnesota

Any idea why Moss filled in for Ojemudia when he missed a series, and not DJ Johnson, when DJ is listed behind Oju and Moss behind Hankins?

Or did I miss something?

It's unfortunate that Brents seems to be setting up for a redshirt. This is a game where we could use his length. And he played well against Minnesota last year.

It goes without saying but it’s well past due on time to feature Tyler Goodson. He better get at least 15 touches this week.

If Welch can’t go I hope it’s Campbell at MLB but I’m probably dreaming there. He SHOULD be the future there, but we know how that’ll go.

We can still finish the season on the high note but I’d be looking to get the younger guys as many reps as possible. Specifically Nixon and Shannon at DT, Goodson, LaPorta, Belton etc.

I have a weird feeling we are going to lose Brents or DJ Johnson to a transfer. That would stink.

The interesting thing to me is that last week when asked if Kyler Schott would be starting at right guard if healthy, KF said:

"I mean, he was a starter before he left, so yeah."

Schott had started two games, Rutgers and Iowa State.

When asked before the Michigan this...

Q. What about safety? Koerner has played three games, Merriweather played one. Is it Koerner right now, and if you go to cash, who’s kind of that cash player?

KIRK FERENTZ: I haven’t thought that far ahead, but it might be Belton. He got in there a little bit last week. To answer the question, right now Koerner has got a 3-1 edge in experience. Kaevon came in as the starter, but he came in and played one game. It’s not the same discussion as (Alaric) Jackson who’s played two years for us now. We know who he is and what he is.

But you’ll see both those guys playing, and the way it’s worked out, I think everybody is going to have plenty of opportunity.

Going off what KF said last week, I would not expect Brandon Smith this week. Not sure on Welch. We'll get updates tomorrow.

I hear what you're saying Nile but our running backs had only 18 carries total in the Wisconsin game. We need to have the offense stay on the field longer and have more success to get them more carries. I liked how Toren Young was carrying the ball and the run game had some success. The Stanley fumbled snap seemed to end that. But we need to be able to pass earlier and sustain drives. Of course, if we do that, if allows for Goodson to get more touches, which I agree he should.

And Merriweather.

For as much as the coaches were talking about him in August you think they would find a spot for him somewhere.
Merriweather might as well transfer. He lost his spot due to the KF love of the white walk on safety. Koerner was a cling on Saturday riding Taylor like show pony. Merriweather is by far the better athlete, and no reason why he should have lost his spot due to being injured.

Goodson is so much more talented than our other 2 backs its silly. No reason he shouldn't be getting the majority of the carries. Other teams find a way to get the ball to their playmakers and let them make plays. KF and boy wonder BF take our ONE lone playmaker on a dismal offense, and sit him on the bench for all but a handful of plays every game. Oh, and Doyle will start the rest of his career due to nepotism. That seems to be the theme at Iowa.

This happens all the time. Its like KF finds some FS in Iowa and starts him to keep those Iowa HS football coaches happy. I cant figure this one out. FS is a position where you want athletes.
