Check out the points against stats in both months:
January: 78.4 points against
February: 67.8 points against

Yes, Iowa played tougher teams in January. Even so, that is a major improvement. To go from giving up almost 80 points to under 70? That is wonderful.

Also...Average Points for statistic:

January: 67.71 points for
February: 68.83 points for

Just as I expected, Iowa's offense hasn't necessarily carried the team to victory, but the improvement on the defensive end has allowed Iowa to stay in games. Iowa is 4-2 in February, after going 2-5 in January. That's because of the defense (and Gatens)

Summary: We back!

Replacing Ohio State and Michigan State with 2 games against Penn State who is the worst scoring team in the conference is the only reason for the difference. The 69 that PSU put up in February vs Iowa was their second best scoring output in Big 10 play, the 83 that Northestern put up against Iowa in February was their 2nd best scoring output in Big 10 play, and in the January 26 game against Nebraska the Huskers put up... you guessed it, their second best scoring output in Big 10 play.

There facts don't support your conclusion at all.

Well, I just took out the Michigan State and Ohio State game: Iowa's D still gave up 75.6 points per game in January.

Compare that with 67-68 per game given up in February. we're talking a 10% decrease in points allowed. If you think 10% isn't a significant #, then sir, you crazy.

Yeah considering Indiana scored 103 points on Iowa on January 29th, the Hoosiers second most points of ANY GAME ALL YEAR INCLUDING NON CONFERENCE. Your conclusion is a joke, stop embarrassing yourself. I have already illustrated for you how Iowa gave up relatively very bad point totals to Penn State and Northwestern in February, plus the last two games of January were terrible defensively.

The Hawks are dead last in BOTH scoring defense and field goal defense in the Big 10. Keep making a fool of yourself with the ridiculous analysis that it has to do with the calendar magically changing to February and not the schedule though.

And the next game they played IU a month later, they held them to just 66 points. That's a pretty big difference, whether you're at home or not.

Unfortunately the previous two games before the Indiana rematch were the aforementioned terrible defensive performances against PSU and NW.

People in sports do this all the ******* time. Look at a snap-shot of a month and see if the team has improved or not. Guess what? Iowa's defense is giving up fewer points, and Iowa is winning more. Related? NOPE, NOT LIKELY, SINCE IOWAS DEFENSE IS STILL DEAD LAST, IT MEANS THAT THEY HAVENT IMPROVED AT ALL.

Don't sweat it! The guy is a doucher and does this to everyone. He apparently leads such a lousy, insignificant life that he has to take it out on an anonymous message board.

Anyone with half a brain can see with their own eyes that our defense has improved mightily. We are rotating better, communicating better, playing post defense better and doing better on the defensive glass.

Hell, here's Iowa's average defense in the months of November-December against some truly horrible teams: 70.5 points per game.

Unless you want to claim that the putrid November-December schedule is tougher than Iowa's February schedule, the defense has most certainly improved.

Ahh, okay. Never read this flamer before.

And yeah, Basabe's play and McCabe/White's energy in February has really helped increase Iowa's inside presence. Perimeter D has been pretty bad all year, but i feel you have to be blind not to see the intensity picking up overall.

Iowa couldn't hold a breeze to under 70 points in December. They've held 5/6 teams to under that in February. That's an improvement.

If you watched the game vs UW it was clear the defense was playing on a different level that it had been in January. And, the OP does make clear points supported by facts.

Hilarious, the Tavern Hawk losers like you act like the team is either the best ever or the coach should be fired. Then when an actual rational poster points out how ridiculous you are you get butthurt for months. Classic.

Are you sure that you didn't used to post under the handle, "TylerSash"? Because that guy could be a real dick, and so are you.

You may be onto something with Troy Skinner here.

I just love how "TylerSash" used to call out other posters for not having creative handles, so if "Tskinner" really is the old "TylerSash", then that's just hilarious. What a tool.

You are the loser who is adding nothing of value but name calling in post after post in this thread. Have they covered irony at your community college yet?
