Iowa's class ranked 11th out of 12 in the B1G according to Rivals.

This is about what we have seen from KF during his whole tenure at Iowa and the reason he has the big three year swoons. This class is oddly reminiscent of the 2008 class. 2011 was strong and last year's class looks a lot like the 2007 class and should result in some very significant long term starters.

This class like the 2008 class might have a Prater, Reiff, or Ferentz in it. But it is also filled up with guys that if they end up starting it will be because there isn't really a true quality B10 starter available, ala Castillo, Bigach, Gaglione, etc.

Its not about them because youre right we dont know. However when a coach is driving a program into the ground and then you see a low ranking recruiting ranking....well that doesnt sit well. However I dont think the program is in trouble because of talent. Iowa has the worst in game coach in D1.

The coach and talent are too related to seperate. Ferentz runs a very predictable and basic offense and defense. Nothing wrong with that if you have the talent. See Alabama, they run a pretty basic offense but have so much talent they pull it off. Bama could tell you the play they are running and still pull it off.

Few teams can pull that off so they employ wrinkles, like a running QB or the spread, etc to mask lack of talent.

Kirk has stayed the course with a prostyle offense (which is an odd name considering most NFL teams are now more wide open than Iowa) that requires near perfection to win games.

Nothing inherently wrong with the offense that more talent wouldn't fix, but Ferentz has not shown the ability to recruit that talent. In the past he has developed that talent but its been a while since we took a farmboy from Bode Iowa and made him an All American TE.

This program is going to suck, and suck hard, for a long time. Apathy is beginning to cement in me.

Your team sucks? No hope for the future? Turn it off, like a light switch, there it's gone, I'm all better now, turn it off! Feel free to refer back to this video after the inevitable a$$-kickings Kurtball receives over the next several seasons.

You know what's harder than recruiting to Iowa City? Recruiting to effing Lincoln, NE or Manhattan, KS or Stillbornwater, OK.

The first page and 1/2 of this thread is a who's who of "really mad at kf".

While not highly rated(by Iowa standards, highly rated is top 20-30, except for one rarity), this class has the feel of "scratching where it was itching". I don't know if it will translate now, later, or ever. I also don't know if kf can/will turn in around again...maybe he is done dealing as so many are certain of.

I don't think we are a consistant 10-11+ win NC program, why would I?, we Never have been and as so oft stated, there are Many reasons. I also think (there's that whole "opinion" thing again) there is very little different between the 25-50 ranked recruiting rankings and probably even less difference between the next 20-30 classes.

Don't know the future and have had my own frustrations with clock management, overly conservative calls, what seems to be a wrong OC hire and subsequent retention(we'll see this year), and questions on use of talent....HOWever, I also continue to believe player development, fundamentals, and execution are strengths of this head coach and his staff....again, I am "choosing" this opinion, and that's all it is.

The frustration is warranted and the extremism of opinion is the definition of college athletic passion. It is just tiresome, but I will only speak for myself.

I'll end where I started, we filled some needs. And it appears we are putting effort into rebuilding the oline / dlines, where any success will start (see Iowa's past successful years common denominator). QB is a ?, WR is a little of a ?, schemes and player usages unfortunately is a little of a ?. But if we can get the Lines rolling again, we can start to see a little success again (see my sig if you want to know My definition of success/failure).

Go Hawks - All Hawks, even those that hate a little.

IOWA has more talent than Nebraska in most year.

Kansas is also not loaded except for JUCO's

Oklahoma take all the Okie talent

There are more recruits coming out of those states than Iowa.

Nebraska has just over half the population of Iowa. Kansas has a few hundred thousand fewer, Oklahomeless has @ 700K more, but regardless of the slight population advantage, Stillwater is still a festering sh!thole.

When you're the dean of B1G14 coaches and you're bottom feeding in the recruiting battle, your program is making a beeline to the sewer. That's a hard cold fact, and it royally sucks cuz it's us.

I miss rants by someone who is intelligent, and can throw down a verbal beating on a subject. Instead I've been forced to read endless ****snort**** ****gum chewing**** we steal MAC player rants around here.

Post more Thunder, and teach these f****** morons how to colorfully and originally rip on someone/something.

We had an Awful year in '12, a frustrating year in '11, and seeminly underachieved in '10. But I don't think we will continue to the "sewer" and these are your opinions(btw, you are more than welcome to them, I agree about the last few years, just not about the unknown future). We currently rank not that far from our historical average in recruiting, that's a fact.

Dude, you ever driven through Norman? It is a trailerhouse bedroom community of OKC.

Fact is according to experts who get paid to write about this stuff Iowa had a very poor class, one of the worst in the BCS conferences. We won't know for 2-3 years if they are wrong.

I agree with many that recruiting has always been poor at Iowa for whatever reason. I believe that the disappointment of this recruiting class is directly related to the season Iowa just had. If Iowa had won 8-9 games, no one would care that the class was ranked around 52 or so in the FBS/BCS whatever you call it. The fact still remains that this class addresses key positions that Iowa needs to see improvement (minus DE, which to me is blindingly obvious). Sure they aren't 4*-5* guys but everyone they picked up could be a solid player, we won't know for a few years.

My issue is who on here is a recruiting guy that knows what Iowa can do to actually attract top level talent. People on here pizz and moan about how bad it is and how Ferentz isn't recruiting well. All while Jon and others are claiming how difficult it is to recruit to Iowa.

If you disagree with Jon that it isn't as hard as he says or you have ideas as to how to get top level talent, I would sure love to hear your suggestions. Please keep in mind your past experiences at Iowa don't mean jack squat as students of all schools will claim the same things. What I am trying to say is, what does Iowa have that they can use as a recruiting tool that other schools don't?

Nearly $4 million per year for the derp-eyed peckerwood. So pwoud.

Come on Scorp, you are better than that. You know you're the man and I love your posts but you know that people who complain about other people's salary are just jelly as hell.

Ferentz makes his salary because he won when he needed too early on in his career at Iowa. The program still brings in a ton of money, even after a horribly disappointing '10 season, a mediocre '11 and then '12 well that is just plain bad. That is why he continues to be here and make his ridiculous salary, because of how much money the program continues to bring in, not the results on the field. Yes, I agree they are related but until their is a drop off or extremely upset donors and I mean the ones that donate real money, not a few hundred bucks for a decent seat. Sadly, KF is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
