Iowa's Bubble Is Drifting Away!

What a nice feeling, huh!! Iowa finally not a bubble team but should be a lock for an automatic bid into the NCAA. What a relaxed feeling. This has not been the case since the last two Alford seasons in the early 2000's when Iowa had 23 & 25 wins. Happy the guys turned the corner and coming on strong in the end compared to last season. The team length is posing problems for opponents and the team D is terrific.

It's a weird feeling now just waiting for the NCAA to start instead of gnawing on fingernails thru selection night.

(allow me to ignore all the good in this post and focus on a tiny detail)

My favorite part is how you have us as a lock to win the conference tourney, providing us the automatic bid, as opposed to the at large bid we should have locked up.

Yea. I used the wrong terminology. I guess at large is the correct label. You are correct sir.

Not to bee too nitpicky but... I really notice how people falsely remember the Alford years.

There was only ONCE that we got an at large bid with Alford as our coach... there wasn't any 2-3 years where we were sweating the NCAA.

We were out of it every year really but one... Alford did have the success in the conf tourneys however.

It does feel good. I have to take back some of the remarks I made after the NW/MN losses. It was looking like the all too familiar collapse. I've never been so glad to be wrong. Fran deserves it. The team earned it. We all get to enjoy it.

And last night Hoosiers was on.

It's about time I start playing ball again.

I wanna win this one for my dad.

Technically, Iowa got an at-large bid in 2005, and 2006. Although 2005, the team won 5 straight games, including the BTT, before Wisconsin hit a hail mary 3 to beat us in the semis. Iowa barely snuck in as a 10 seed. 2005-06 was the only year Iowa was truly a lock.

2000-01, they took any guesswork out of it by getting the automatic bid. Although they may have been safe after reaching the semis or the title game, Iowa went into the BTT needing a big run to get in, just like in 2005.

The other 5 years under Alf, Iowa wasn't even in bubble territory.

Fran > Alford at this point.

2006 we won BTT, so Alford teams only earned ONE at-large bid. But that season went up in flames in round of 64...

There's a, um tradition in tournament play- not talk about the next step until you've climbed the one in front of you. I'm sure going to the state finals is beyond your wildest dreams, so let's just keep it right there.
