IowaLaw's Post Game Report: Outback Bowl

Maybe it's just a case that Gersonde isn't any better than Rastetter. All these conspiracy theories about Kirk are really funny:

He plays Rastetter only because his uncle is a big donor, instead of playing a punter who's better.
He only cares about getting to 7-5 so it can be considered a successful season.
He only cares about the money and not winning or the state of the program.
He didn't play Fant all the time only because he was trying to hold him down and not because of some other shortcoming Fant might have had.

I mean just stop already.

And people wonder why I call them Da Haters? How can you take anyone serious who thinks that KF is gonna play a kid just cause his daddy got money and donates? Anyone who tries to advance that is just Da Hater.

Brents plays cornerback not safety/linebacker.
I hope he's on the field somewhere next year. I like him. If he did move to safety I don't think Phil would do the hybrid. Or perhaps he could move Brents to free safety to replace Gervase.

I like him at corner too. He's a good athlete.

[QUOTE="Fryowa, post: 1795692, member: 81088"]While we’re googling, you should google “Bruce Rastetter.”

Jesus, some of you are finally catching on.
And he will do his best to make sure Brian gets his next promotion.
This guy likes to throw his money and influence around and is not the most ethical guy in the world.

So all you Ferentz lovers, what does it say about a coach who will put "personal" goals ahead of the team?

From a pure coaching perspective no excuse for the punting we have seen the past two years. Embarrassingly bad and not putting the team first.

I would never support a coach who puts personal goals ahead of his/her team. But, you are dead wrong about KF
doing that. This is pure conjecture and a lot of hate for him on your part.

A big part of the running problem is the offensive line. We have 2- 320 pound linemen and they can't beat the guy opposite of them. Normally Iowa is lucky to have one 320 ish linemen. And they are usually dominate. IE; Gallery, Sherff, Buluga.

With Akrum Wadley there was always that potential that he would take it to the house. That's what we didn't have in 2018.

We need to start calling the 2019 season the No Excuses season. This season is the third year for most of these guys. With the exception of AJ, the progress has been sporadic. Stanley shows brilliance tempered with WTF moments. Wirfs, Jackson still waiting. IMS, Smith starting to come alive.

Agree, dude can play. I was shocked he didn’t stay in as starter but OJ at star if Hook leaves makes sense. If not Brent’s should start at CB anywho next year

Easily the post of the year. So good it should’ve been reported for flagrant content. One of most attractive females I’ve ever seen.

Hawkfnn - actually, I believe it was our Mackey Award winner running an up route as a decoy that set up Easley's 75 yarder. I would have to watch the game again, but I think it was a busted coverage where the guy bit to cover Hockenson. The game plan to ram our heads against the wall over and over and over against an NFL D-line with low level running backs was nonsensical no matter how we try to justify it.

Incorrect. It was Smith on the outside doing an up route; and if you watch the replay, it's more of a 10 yard and stop route to occupy the cornerback. The safety who's responsibility was Easley, for some unknown reason bit on the play action fake and Easley's stop in the route where it appeared that he were going to block added to the sell factor on the play action. Hock was running a crossing route and was 5-7 yards from the LOS running his route away from Easley, covered by their other safety. Linebackers all bit on the play action fake and then scrambled to get back into coverage, but by then it was too late.

And the reason the play worked is because it was 1st and 10 and Iowa has demonstrated an affinity to run the ball on first downs. It was a brilliant call, given Iowa's tendencies on first down and it was brilliant execution by the players.

Exactly, and everyone will see why KF continues to trot the worst punter in the nation out there every single time we punt. Now people should explain how KF doesn't play favorites, or always plays the players that give us the best chance to win. Bullshit.

Actually, he was only the worst in the Big 10 (at 38.9 yards per kick, which is a 1 yard per kick improvement over the previous year). He was 113th in the nation and he was not even the worst in all the P5 conferences.

All that being said, we need to improve the punting game. We just don't need hyperbole from a negative poster.
