IowaLaw's 1st Quarter Report Card

I just think the kid is probably still agonizing over it, and my do it for a long time, especially if the Hawks don't put the whole crappy loss behind them.

Oh yeah not even close to mad at Beyer or his mistake as there are mistakes all over every game.

If the hawks defend that 3rd down pass play immediately following this punt fumble kick mistake and wisky makes a FG then the hawk lead is 17-10, or they miss the FG. The hawks defense many times comes up with a stop in that situation.

A 17-10 lead is so much different in the 4th qtr as even a hawk FG could have put them up two scores etc etc.

There were multiple non-defensive stops is Wisky's 2 long TD drives to point to as mistakes or not making plays.

Any stop and forced punt on either of those long Wisky drives probably wins the game for Iowa.

I wouldn't expect someone like DDThompson to grasp the fact that grades are based on Big 10 rank. Hence ranking is prominently listed in the OP. The passing offense ranks 6th. The rushing offense ranks 8th. The total offense ranks 10th. DD's mind is blown? Hawkdrummer too? Slightly more complex thinking, which again, I wouldn't expect here, suggests that the discrepancy is based not on bias, but the fact that neither Iowa's passing nor its rushing are spectacular. They are consistently low, bringing the total offense down to 10th. Most teams in the Big 10 have either one or the other aspect of the offense ranked pretty high.

Next, Uihawk seems to think that just because Iowa had played 3 games, a comparison could be made vs. all teams because they all played 3. Apparently his knowledge of college football is limited to the Hawks and he didn't realize that although Iowa played 3 games, many teams had only played 2 due to byes and weather (Neb and ISU included). There are 16 weeks in the college football season, not 12. Plus a bowl game. If UIhawk wants to hand out grades after week 1 because the Hawks played 1 game, I think it would make for riveting reading and super accurate conclusions. Please do so next year.

Passing game — B-
+
Rushing game — C
=
Total Offense — D+

I.e. core math of anti-Ferentz bias
=
stupid conclusions
