Football Budget: $18 million
Team: Iowa Hawkeyes
Conference: Big Ten
The Hawkeyes haven’t been particularly competitive of late, but Ferentz’s contract offers him some incredible job security. If he were to be terminated without cause, Ferentz would be entitled to 75% of his remaining contract, worth about $21 million.â€

The question is why does he have that power. It is because he keeps the money coming in to support the entire athletic dept. We would all like to judge him on wins alone but the UI doesnt. As long as he brings in the $$$ he will probley keep the power

It goes without saying that he does not at all deserve to be mentioned in the same discussion with those coaches.

If there was an agents' Hall of Fame, ferentz' agent should be in it for getting him this kinda contract. I don't blame just Barta for such a stupid move. I blame the whole school and the big boosters for allowing this to happen.

Just to put it out there. I'm not saying fire him, just think he's overpaid and has too much power/control. At least he's bringing in money and they're using it to upgrade facilities, it could be worse, but it could be better.

The 4 guys ahead of Kirk on this list have a combined 14 losses the past 2 seasons... the same Kurt has himself.

The 5 guys behind him have a combined 25 losses the last 2 years....


Barta should be fired as well as Kurt if we are not bowl eligibel next year.

I don't under where people seem to think this comes from. Current and former players and assistance coaches have all said that Ferentz is passionate and emotional during practice and meetings but not during games. He believes in acting professional and staying calm during the games. Given his game plan and clock management are both EXTREMELY questionable but I don't think he doesn't have passion or care if the team wins.

You got it my friend, it is more than just wins on the football field, it is about money.

If he keeps bringing in that money, he is going to continue to be powerful and he is going to continue to be the HC, no matter what a bunch of internet T.U.F.F. guys think.

Not saying I agree with it but that is the way it works.

The revenue is a key point, that's for sure. I do think next season we will see improvement in the program as I think the team gained experience (except at QB which is about as smart as his clock management skills) that will be of benefit this next season. We may see seven, eight, or maybe nine wins ( if the stars align themselves just right). If however we have another year like this one then its time to go out to the shed and grab the axe and start to sharpen the blade with intentions of using it at the end of 2014. Because of the revenue brought in by the Big Ten network Iowa will get twenty million a year regardless of who the coach is, and fans need to keep that in mind.......chop, chop!!!

To say that all he does is stand there constantly every Saturday with a blank stare is just ridiculous. There have been a number of games where he has broke out in tears, ran up the sidelines yelling, got on his players and refs. I get that people would like more of that, but then the same people would say he's too crazy and emotional.

That and he also continually makes circular motions with his index fingers as players come off the field and as he moves amongst the position meetings on the sidelines. Sitting behind the bench you will observe that is literally just about all he does during the game. You can tell with the position coaches it has become just a necessary distraction to pause what they are instucting/coaching to allow Ferentz to clap and rotate his fingers.

He's the only D-1A coach I know of that is actually detrimental to his team by being on the sidelines during a game. Examples: keeping Christianson in as long has he did years back. Keeping JVB in all year this season. Horrible clock management. etc.............

When a grown man gets emotional after big wins, that proves he is passionate. Although I don't think all his players love and respect him. I think it is the ones that buy into the program and understand what he is trying to teach them about being a man off the field is just as important as being a player off the field.
