Iowa WRs

Not to nitpick much, because we won. However, the Iowa WRs seem to usually be an issue as of late. ISM had a few catches, Smith didn’t do much, and Easely Either.

I know this offense was dink and dunk as the norm, however, when we try to open up the Offense, it seems like nobody can get open, or find the hole in the zone?

You’d think that we could accidentally recruit a good WR, or one that can break open the game here and there.. but lately, nothing. Is it coaching, is it an obvious problem in recruiting?

It’s just a frustrating issue that seems to be a common theme lately.

Tough to judge based on yesterday's game, however they did look as ineffective as last year. Then again, Stanley didn't do much for the cause either in the first half, that wasn't his best game.

Smith was pretty disappointing yesterday. I'm starting to see why a kid with his size and athleticism didn't have a lot of offers coming out of high school. He must block really well because he struggles to catch the ball.

I wish I could see the WR's more during the game. I didn't notice a lot of separation, but I really need to see it again. Maybe when BTN is done showing women's soccer...

Iowa didn't display much with the WRs. No downfield tries to Marsette. Easley was only targeted a couple of times, and both were really poor throws. Smith needs to pick it up - he dropped one that, while not a perfect throw, needs to be caught.

Definitely need to recruit better.
That said, we all know we like to start slow.
No need to give Wisconsin any more to prepare for, just enough to get the W.

They were open several times. The several times they were they either dropped the ball or Stanley didn’t get it to them.

They are the result of very poor recruiting. Now you see why they weren't highly rated. Brandon Smith needs to sit, as he did nothing last year, and yesterday was just awful. He looks like he doesn't even want to be out there.

It would be interesting to see if playing Peyton Mansel at QB could make a difference. He seems more mobile and throws a sharper ball than Stanley

Also did anybody check out Tyler Wiegers completion percentage in game 1 for Eastern Michigan? 86% !!!

Wiegers completed 18 of 21 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns in Friday’s win.

He had a couple of glaring missed blocks that killed what would have been big plays.

Put me in the very concerned category. This has been a problem for years. Hard to recruit good receivers when you use them as little as we do. Our limited passing game could really lower the ceiling for this team.

I’d just feel so much better if Smith was at the level of ISM. There’s no hope after these guys.

With the TEs, RBs and Stanley I do think we can overcome the weakness but only if Smith can at least add something.

But, when I watched the play on the DVR tonight, I got a clear picture of Marsette just off to the right of TJ, and if Nate would have thrown to him, he would have been in the end zone. I mean, there was Nobody within several yards of him.

I haven’t re-watched the game but I thought I saw a similar play (maybe same play you’re talking about) with a TE w—I—d—e open.

But I’m guessing the second TE wasn’t the primary or secondary receiver.
