Iowa Women and the NCAA tournament

ESPN has Iowa listed as the first team out as of today. Princeton is one of the last four in and they play Penn for the Ivy league championship. Penn is listed as the expected champion and a 13th seed. So it is possible the loser misses the tournament opening up a spot for Iowa. Temple also in the last 4 in lost to South Florida again so the committee may move them out as well. So all is not lost in terms of an NCAA bid. It will be a nervous wait for the ladies - hope they can catch some luck.

I don't think anybody seriously has the Iowa women in the NCAA.

So I'm not sure the point of your post. You don't believe ESPN has Iowa as the first team out. You don't believe that either Penn or Princeton will lose today - they are playing right now and Penn is leading. Maybe you don't think Temple lost yesterday and the committee could be one team different than ESPN. No one thinks they are a favorite to get in, but they maybe approaching a 50/50 shot. Don't be so negative.

I don't mean to come across as negative but I don't think the women deserve to be in the tournament as they haven't really beaten anybody. But if they make it in somehow I will still pull for them. The future does look bright for womens basketball.

Would love to see the Lady Hawks keep that string alive. I also think an NIT bid would be more beneficial to them as experience goes just because I think they would have a deeper run but hey...........they may brake through in the NCAA and win a few there. They are improving by leaps and bounds.

St, Johns won that game tonight. If Creighton would of won that it would of been a disaster for the Hawks.

You need to come to the realization that Iowa is not an NCAA team this year. No team that averages 19-22 TO's a game is an NCAA team. Too hard to overcome that & they are too young. I don't worship ESPN as you do, ALLEGEDLY!!

Iowa was a young team this year with young guards. Next year is hopefully a different story, but, it is not happening this year.

Let me say I don't worship ESPN. They do however have a better idea about who is going to be in the tournament than most amateurs. I cited them as an "expert" source. Iowa certainly has it's flaws, but if you have seen Princeton or Temple or Auburn play they are not better than Iowa. Flawed teams make the tournament every year and the committee doesn't have a rule about how many turnovers you can have and still make the tournament; nor is their an age requirement. You offer no support for your argument from anyone who makes a living writing about basketball and studying bracketology. I just cited a reputable source and I realize that Iowa may not make the tournament, but people who are experts do not rule them out. Just so we can keep things accurate and not make things up - the team averages 16 turnovers a game (too many) but much less than 19-22. So they could be a tournament team.

Iowa has a good case to be made. They have quality late season wins against Indiana and Purdue.

Compared against other bubble teams they have advantages. Take Temple for example. Iowa has a much higher strength of schedule, 20th to 79th. A higher rpi 59th to 71st. Iowa's Sagarin rating Is 43rd.

The final factor is that fan support is a major factor in the women's game. Iowa outperforms teams like Temple a long ways there. So if it is close Iowa gets the bid.

I guess we can agree to disagree. To add, I do hope they somehow get in. Yes, 16 is a lot of turnovers. It just seems that after every bad loss or 2nd half collapse that it always came down to the number of TO they ended up having. This shows the how young this team is but the future looks bright.

I'm just saying the experts on ESPN or any other sports network are going to fill a lot of time and end up talking about a lot of scenerios, teams and possibilities, with many that never come to fruition. They have a lot of time to fill. See it every year. Ally, is this you?
