first time men have won this since 1967
Were we favored to do so, or was this an upset? Either way, this is their first B1G title of my lifetime. Congrats Hawks!
Super!! Did I miss this on BTN or will it still be on sometime? Anybody know? Over half the guys on this board weren't even born yet in 1967.
Definitely an upset. Either Minnesota or Wisconsin has won something like 15 of the last 16 outdoor championships. Iowa was fifth in the indoor meet, so I don't know if anybody saw this coming.
This is surprising to me. I would have figured maybe OSU or Michigan to be good at track. I know football doesn't necessary translate to track but a lot of football players run track and I would say those teams are usually the fastest teams in the Big Ten.
Great write-up here: The Wizard of Championships - Iowa Official Athletic Site
Pumpdog, very few division I athletes compete in both football and track. If you want to be good at either, you have to commit year-round. Plus football speed rarely equates to track speed, at least at the level these guys are running at.
Iowa has only had five guys that I can think double in football and track in the last 15 years: Chaney, Tim Dodge, Jeremy Allen, Tim Dwight, and Bashir Yamini.
The last time Iowa won (1967) I was kicking my mom in the stomach trying to get out. I was born 6 weeks later.Super!! Did I miss this on BTN or will it still be on sometime? Anybody know? Over half the guys on this board weren't even born yet in 1967.
