Iowa Wins B10 Track & Field Outdoor title

Super!! Did I miss this on BTN or will it still be on sometime? Anybody know? Over half the guys on this board weren't even born yet in 1967.

Were we favored to do so, or was this an upset? Either way, this is their first B1G title of my lifetime. Congrats Hawks!

Definitely an upset. Either Minnesota or Wisconsin has won something like 15 of the last 16 outdoor championships. Iowa was fifth in the indoor meet, so I don't know if anybody saw this coming.

This is surprising to me. I would have figured maybe OSU or Michigan to be good at track. I know football doesn't necessary translate to track but a lot of football players run track and I would say those teams are usually the fastest teams in the Big Ten.

Pumpdog, very few division I athletes compete in both football and track. If you want to be good at either, you have to commit year-round. Plus football speed rarely equates to track speed, at least at the level these guys are running at.

Iowa has only had five guys that I can think double in football and track in the last 15 years: Chaney, Tim Dodge, Jeremy Allen, Tim Dwight, and Bashir Yamini.

If we can translate size into quality linemen, why can't we tap this resource also? Think of the goal line offense with a triple long jumper in suit! Though the clowns demonstrated what happens when you try to convert a shot putter into a kick holder.

Trey Stross also, although he wasn't a runner. High jump.

#1--Also last time Minnesota went to the Rose Bowl
#2--Proves (ahem OK4P) that NW is NOT a legit Big-10 school...they don't field a T/F team.

The last time Iowa won (1967) I was kicking my mom in the stomach trying to get out. I was born 6 weeks later.

For those interested the Big Ten Network will broadcast the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field '11 Event at 2:00 PM on Thursday May 19th.

The Minnesota coach said, at beginning of broadcast, that Hawks would be a factor when you could see how many guys we advanced to the Finals.

And those were some pretty good times in both the 100 and 200. Justin Austin is going to be a force barring injury.

Track guys performed above expectations, and Field guys definitely stepped up.

Our hurdlers also had a good showing.
