Iowa Will Win Big this Weekend

I hope you are right. Unfortunately I think Mich. State's defense is going to make it difficult to get a big lead. They are playing good ball right now.
My prediction:
Hawks by 14 points (late score will put it away).

I'm predicting the hawks will score a defensive or special teams touchdown. Anyone know when was the last time iowa returned a kick for a score??

Iowa State last year? Or were you talking about kickoffs?

Jermelle Lewis had one against Mich State several years ago...

For some reason I feel really good about this game. I think we do real well. I worry more about a letdown vs Indiana.

The one that comes to mind is C.J. Jones in the Orange bowl but now that i've thought about it, did Jermelle Lewis have one against Arizona State in '03 or '04?

Nevermind, it was Walner Belleus who returned a punt for a TD against Arizona State not a kick return by Lewis. My mistake. I think you're right hawkfan.

The Orange Bowl?

Jovon Johnson at Kinnick, I forgot who they were playing...

I believe the Johnson return was a blocked field goal against Purdue in 2002. I know Lewis had a big return against MSU in '04, but I don't know if he scored, or if it was on a kickoff. Should be easy enough to find out; either way, it's been a long time.

Turns out, it was the Orange Bowl in '03.

Concerning this weekends game, the secondary has to keep tabs on Blair White. He is MSU's version of Eric Decker (read-only deep threat), and he burned Iowa a 3 or 4 times last year and contributed greatly to their win last year. Overall, this game will probably play out just like the Penn State and Wisconsin games did - Sparty will land a couple of punches early while the Iowa defense figures out what is going on, the Iowa offense will struggle for it's first couple of series but then put together just long enough of a drive to let the defense right itself. and that drive will end in a punt from around midfield or a field goal.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

And we lost big to USC.

Think with your heads...not with your hearts.

It will be a tough battle and 2 things determine who wins.
turnovers/points of turnovers
Stanzi performance
if he does good then we will run against them and do better in total

At this time I would have to favor MSU...just like I did Wisconsin.
Let's hope I'm wrong for the 2nd week in a row...I like that if the Hawks win.

Go HAWKS

In 2004, when we got our a$$es handed to us at ASU, Walner Belleus (#10) ran the final kick-off back to the house, preventing a shut-out... 44 - 7.

Brodell had a PR for a TD last year vs ISUx, and Jovon had an "odd" PR for touchdown against Ball St. in 2005.

No . . . it was NOT.

It was Walner Belleus against ASU in 2004 . . . preventing the shut-out at the END of the game.

We're talking kickoff returns....Belleus returned a punt.

Turns out the return I was thinking of happened in 2002...

Link

Jermelle Lewis returned a first-quarter kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown.
.
.
On the ensuing kickoff, Lewis fielded the ball at the 6, ran through a wall of blockers and raced, untouched, down the sideline. The play was the second longest kickoff return in school history and set off a string of 44 unanswered points for the Hawkeyes.

I too am on the leary feelings of this game. 0-7 at EL is very unsettling. However like Jim Zabel said when Iowa had that long winning streak against Wis. that sooner or later that streak had to come to an end. Iowa is playing well and full of confidence. I hope this is the year. Stanzi will remember last year where he had a rough time. It could be sweet revenge for him. The only nagative is could playing at EL be like Iowa playing Penn St. Ferentz has JoPa's number. Could the Spartans have Iowa's number in their house. We will find out. War Hawks for staying undefeated. Let's get 8-0

I agree with the people that are worried about this game! I am worried wwith our problems up there, also the fact that They have improved so much after a slow start! People took to much away from them after the Central Michigan loss. We are the last ones to point to that after getting swamped by Western Michigan a few years ago! I hope you guys that are predicting a victory are right , but I'll be nervous until the game is won!

If they can rattle the Spartan QB and get him to throw a pick or two this could be a blowout in favor of the Hawks.

I got a feeling this could be a breakout game the Iowa offense.
