Iowa will not finish 4-8 next season because...............................

Exactly! The guys I listed were every hard nosed guys. Caar's list was great as well minus Mike Daniels as a full time starter. He was/is a beast don't get me wrong, he was a great hawk, but he couldn't handle playing as much as he was asked to do.

Been saying this for awhile, it is the size of the fight in the dog that matters. Only stars I really care about are the ones the other team sees when they get hit so frigging hard their grand kids studder. (within reason, I dont want to see all 1 and 2 star rosters.)
I will be watching VERY close to see if Mark still plays like he did before he caught a ship. If he lets up for even a second, that it is just as bad as putting it on the ground and he should sit for a bit and think about it. (Not so long it gets in his head, just long enough that he gets the point)

I'm curious why ISU is going to be so bad next year. The defense is going to take a hit, but with Wally and Rhoads running the show, I can't say I'm too concerned about that side of the ball. Offensively, who does ISU lose that will make that much of a difference? Losing Lenz and Horne sucks, but who else really sets the offense back? Jantz? Barnett? The o-line couldn't really get much worse, to be honest. We have 2 young, promising QB's on the roster and that was really the biggest issue on that side of the ball this last season. We also have an entire freshmen class coming off redshirt. I'm not saying ISU will be great next season, but to say ISU will be terrible is probably a bit misguided.

I think you answered your own question in the post. You lose your best defensive players. You return zero offensive players who scare anyone. Those 2 young, promising QB's were so good that Rhoads couldn't decide which one he wanted to play so he played both of them with a little Steele sprinkled in for good measure. "The offensive line couldn't get much worse" makes them sound frightening. And if you're counting on freshmen who redshirted this year to be helpful I question whether you've ever watched football.

I think one of the QB's he is talking about redshirted last year.

I still haven't figured out why Clone fans are excited about the class that redshirted last year(don't get me wrong, everybody does it.) That is probably a sign that it was a pretty weak class. Honestly, I realize they thought they were deep last year, but if that class is so great, they wouldn't have all been redshirting. ISU was very close to having a pretty good season last year, and a little more raw talent on special teams, or at a skill position could have been the difference. Apparently it wasn't there.

I don't know what terrible is, but at Iowa it is 4-8. I'm thinking that is about what ISU will go next year.

1) Weak non conference schedule and the clones will be very, very bad next year. I am predicting that Iowa will beat them and that the clones will win three games at the most next year. That's at least 3 wins right there.

2) I've said this before: The hawks will have to try very hard to have a worse offense than they had in 2012. Translation - the offense simply can not get any worse and if the qb is just ok, they'll beat at least two more games after the non con schedule.

I know I am surprising some as you may think that I'd pick them to do worse than last season.

Your thoughts?

PS: I am not a clone hater, but they are gonna be absolutely horrible next year. They lose so much.

They will be 3-9.

I don't think this will be a problem, from everything I have read about Mark, he is an extremely hard working kid. He had a scholarship to Air Force so it isn't like he is new to a scholarship and that was all he was working for was to get a free ride. He is a football player, he wants to excel on and off the field.

ISU may be down, but Iowa's QB will be making his first career start in a road setting in that game, regardless of who it is. That doesn't inspire confidence. Nor does the 'it can't be any worse' statement, which I agree with...but it doesn't inspire confidence ;)

Hope so. I also hope Nate does well.
I did not get the impression Mark would let up, just from watching him play thru being dinged last year. Sometimes that **** creeps in a persons head and you never know it. Complacency has ruined many a good men. Infact pry more so than any other one thing. Hope he takes that 1 star (think that is what he was) and crams it right down everybodys throat. Size of the fight in the dog!! Maybe he is the one who leads by example.

I think talent and skill have a little bit to do with it. If Iowa can't bring in guys with top notch talent/skill to go along with the size and strength, they need to bring in guys will knock the crap out of someone and do it every play.

I agree. Talent and skill are very important. I just disagree with most when it comes to how much more talent and skill a 5 star has over a high 3. Like I said I would take an "all in" high 3 over a meh, why dont you wow me more, DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? 5 star.

Many things can cause a kid to be a 3* instead of a 5*. It could be size and lack of technique. Or the player could have the technique but needs to put on size. Either way, if the kid has the potential that is a good pick up for Iowa.

My issue is that Iowa has picked up too many long term projects. When the 3* or 4* guys don't pan out, that leaves the 2* guys and walk-ons to fill the two deeps and start. That has been the problem in my opinion.

It all starts with scouting and recruiting, ensuring they are evaulating these players correctly and making sure they get the right ones in here.

If a walk-on can become an All-B1G selection then awesome but trying to make a consistent living off that isn't going to work.

I agree again. The whole process needs to be looked at. Somebody is not very good at reading people. There is a much much better way of scouting, but until I hear what my role for coming up with the idea is, I will just sit back and watch.

Good example, look at Randy Moss. He had everything he needed to be one of the best ever. What stopped him? I dont care how many stars he had, I dont care what round he went in. WHAT stopped him from being the best he could be?

I think that is going to happen with the caoching changes that are "rumored" to be happening. Once it is announced publicly, then I will believe it.

Yeah I agree with Randy Moss, that dude kind of slowed down drastically.

because Iowa that's twice as many wins as Iowa will actually get ... 2-10 is coming

We've talked about 2-10 before on this thread, but if it does happen next year, I don't think anybody realizes how much of a blow recruiting will take as a result. A 2-10 season sets this program back before Hayden got here.

But.........I'm not calling for a 2-10 season.

I agree, I think you can spin a 4-8 season with some kids. But having a 2-10 after a 4-8, not many kids who have real talent are going to buy into that.

That is good and all, coaches need to make a final verdict. They however are not scouts. They have to much to do, and not enough time to scout a kid properly. We all know how it works, but that is not to say it can not or should not be improved upon.

Yeah, but, but... Johnny Football was a freshman QB!

There. I've completely destroyed your point. You may now weep silently in a corner of Casa Miller.
