Iowa will be ranked above ISU tomorrow

MSU is ranked and just beat PSU today. PSU was another loss.

The only kinda iffy one is NW and that's no worse than your loss to TX.

Iowa's resume is actually fairly decent.

I think ISU will still be ranked next week. 4 point road loss isn't too egregious.

Guess we'll see. I predict Iowa won't be ranked but will be close. I won't be surprised either way.

I have no arguments with anything you said. I'm still not a believer in Michigan State, but with only two losses, I can't argue too much about them being ranked.

It would be kind of cool if both Iowa and Iowa State were ranked next week, but I think it's gonna take a win next week to get you guys in (or win the last two weeks if you lose next week)

I agree both Iowa and ISU ranked at the same time would be cool. Has that ever happened? Maybe 2002?

I predict they'll be in the "others receiving votes" category. If they beat wisky they'll jump up to the teens though. Have to avoid the emotional hangover, easier said that done.

You do some serious research on all the top 25 teams to make this statement?

Yes. Iowa is not better than anyone currently in the top 25. They've beaten one ranked team. OSU. Iowa St. lost and won't be ranked next week. The close loss to PSU is not a quality loss anymore - they're going to be ranked 18th or lower. The loss to future #10 MSU means little, and the loss to barely bowl team NW is worth a year long ban from the top 25.

Tell me how Iowa is better than - South Florida 98, Michigan 73, Toledo 19, West Virginia 13, South Carolina 11, San Diego State 3, Army 2, Boise State 2 - by who they've played. They aren't - they have more losses than USF(8 -1), Mich, Toledo(9-1)(loss to Miami!), San Diego St., Army, and Boise State. They'll get votes, but Iowa's loss to NW should keep them unranked.

Edit: To clarify - OSU's only quality win was PSU. PSU has 0 quality wins. PSU, and OSU were paper tigers.

Holy crap!

I mean I doubt Iowa gets ranked either but I can certainly see a case for it. I don't see how any true Hawkeye fan could make a win over Ohio State look shitty, paper tigers....seriously?

I'm just looking at it the way pollsters will. I love the win, they looked great during and still look great on rewatching the game! It was, pretty much, as close to flawless as a victory can get. It's probably the best performance that I've ever seen by a Hawkeye team!

That doesn't change the way that the rankings work. Even during the game, the announcers started shifting the narrative - an undefeated Big Ten champ Wisconsin can't make the playoff because they won't play any solid team during the season - their East opponent won't be a good enough test, etc.

It's not really my words - it's the way the announcers talked during the game. How I feel about the win changes nothing about how the rest of the world thinks about Iowa.

Also, if the Hawks had taken care of Northwestern two weeks ago, they'd be deserving of a ranking today. As is they'll be outside looking in. A win next week gets them in.

I'm definitely a little jaded by years of getting my hopes up and following up great performances like this one with duds. But maybe they will be consistent this time. Either way, a ranking this week will surprise me.

The Hawks are ranked 25th in the AP. Do you like ketchup with that crow?

But ISU still 24th... why do we keep talking about them so much latley? Worried little brother is creeping up on us?

Little surprised by that... i would have flipped Iowa and ISU (as I'm one of those that thinks head to head matchups should count if teams are "closely" ranked, like this situation). but given we are talking about 24 and 25, it probably doesn't matter :)

rankings don't matter unless you're in the top 4 at the end of the season. of course it's always nice to finish in the top 10 but that isn't possible at this point.
