Iowa wih a "weak" schedule

I was still in college during Iowa's 2002 season, and that is when I really started paying attention to the "interwebs" and the college football news that could be found there. It's also when I first began reading the message boards, etc...

For as long as I can recall, Iowa has always been an underestimated, second-thought type of program. Even in 2002, it wasn't until Brad Banks won his 3rd Big Ten Offensive Player of the week award that he was mentioned as a Heisman contender, even though he had been putting up Heisman-worthy numbers all season long.

I guess it just comes with the territory of being an Iowa fan.

The only opinion that really matters is that of the Playoff Selection committee. It will be really interesting to see where they put Iowa in their first rankings because it will be representative of how they feel about Iowa's resume so far this season. Those people actually WATCH the games, know about the injury situation and understand the quality of the opponent.

13-0 takes care of the problem ... only two teams right now with two wins on the rd vs ranked teams: Alabama and Iowa

And Alabama is still highly ranked even with a home loss to an extremely mediocre Ole Miss team and in almost everyone's projections for the Playoff. The SEC Myth is alive and well.

You gotta understand that Baylor, for example, still has to play Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and TCU so their strength of schedule will only improve while Iowa's will decline.

Northwestern has two better OOC wins than the entire B12. The entire conference is a fraud and will get exposed again come bowl season.

America loves Cinderella and the underdog and is driven by the media. wonder if the wins keep coming if the media POV might flip to support a David vs. Goliath mentality and rally behind the underdog.

Just as in the pros, with each additional win, the pressure to keep it up becomes greater each week...it will be a real test for the mental game of the players and coaches, and how they handle it.

Yes things line up well on paper, but this is the B1G. I think we are develiping to look like we belong, but it will not be easy.

We'll end up playing Ohio St or Mich St, so our SOS will probably still be better than theirs.

Hopefully our boys will stay focused and keep winning one Saturday at a time, and not worry about the schedule and what they can't control. If they keep winning, everything else will take care of its self.

jees, what do you want? Iowa has jumped about 5 spots each week in the rankings after beating Wisc, then ILL, then NW.

to the national media, it probably looks like Iowa came out of nowhere and now all of a sudden, Iowa has a 2 game lead in the west. It all happened very fast. Give the media a couple of weeks to get used to the idea of Iowa, and pretty soon, they will be mentioned all the time as a recognized power.

Bowl season is too late. Season is over. It seems like the BIG always does good in the bowls but that respect never turns over to the next year. Hope that NW, Pitt and WI (or ILL) keep winning.

The B12 was 4-5 against P5 conferences, with their top two wins being TCU by 6 over (4-3)Minnesota, and Oklahoma by 7 over (3-3)Tennessee, LOL! That conference should be booted from the P5, they belong in the Group of Five! Memphis would probably take the title with that cupcake, all-B12 schedule!

When the committee takes a look at that, their 'one champion' will again be left on the curb, out of the playoffs again!

Spot on. The Big12 pretends the conference is sooooo tough, yet when they play other P5 teams they only beat the poor or very average teams.

P5 non conference wins for Big12
Minnesota (4-3)
Tennessee (3-3)
Arkansas (2-4)
Maryland (2-4)

P5 non conference wins for B1G
Stanford (5-1) #10
Duke (5-1) #23
Pittsburg (5-1) #25
BYU (5-2)
Oregon (4-3)
Wake Forrest (3-4)
Va Tech (3-4)
Oregon St. (2-4)
Kansas (0-6)
ISU (2-4)

The B1G has 4 wins that are better than the Big12's best win.

I feel like we keep forgetting that during 2009 before every single game or reference to them on Sports Center that they stated, "this team had to block two field goals to beat an FCS team!" Don't waste your time waiting for the Hawkeyes to get a helmet sticker on college game day final. Just stay humble embrace this season, it's been awesome!

HAWKEYES can't worry about any Big12 crap..........IOWA just needs to focus and Just Win Baby
