Iowa vs Wisconsin Is My Favorite Game! By Far.

This rivalry game has become my favorite game of the season each year. Since they are in the same division, Iowa will play Wisconsin every year and most all years will have huge implications on who will have the upper hand at winning the west. So much rides on this game EVERY year.

The teams have the same philosophy and are built similarly. It is by far my favorite game when Iowa plays them. I don't feel any other game during the conference season is as important as this game for both teams. Whoever can win this each year gets a notch up and just a little cushion in the division because of the head-to-head victory.

In addition, this has become a high profile game and many times is played in prime time and covered by a national station.

I love this game!

Do you also like watching pigs go to slaughter? I actually agree with you...there is great anticipation for this game each year. It's been competitive...minus last year...but we just can't seem to get over the hump or make the play at a critical time in the game. It's been that close in many of these games.

I don't need to tell you what's at stake in this rivalry for me. If I do you haven't been reading the threads this week.

This is my least favorite Iowa game actually because I hate Wisconsin so much that I can't keep from getting wound up. Add in that they've dominated this series so much lately, especially at Kinnick and its a recipe for not good on the ticker for me.

2010 was the last time I watched an entire Wisconsin/Iowa game from start to finish. A few times, 2015 & 2016, I didn't even watch a single play of the game live. I find something else to do and scoreboard check.

It's been a great game in the Ferentz era, in general. I go back to that 2003 or 2004 game at Kinnick for the Conf championship, I believe. Most have been that exciting every year.

People don't remember Wisconsin of the 1980's. They were horrible, like on par with Purdue and 1980's NW. They usually were a sure W on the schedule, until Alvarez got them up to the point they are now, and they pretty much have sustained that.

How can you hate Wisconsin? It isn't like they are Ohio St or Nebraska who have transgressions. I view them as a friendly rivalry and respect their program as they seem to do it right. They don't seem to miss a beat when they transition coaches. They know who they are.

I guess I don't have the bitterness with them I do with some other teams. I don't think you hate them, I think you are jealous of them. I remember when Iowa and Wisky were pretty much even with all time wins and losses. Wisky pulled ahead from there and separated a bit. Iowa needs to turn that around, STARTING THIS SATURDAY!

I think some of the "hatred" is not for Wisconsin, the program, but just our "hatred" over not being able to beat them, since we see our beloved program as being the predecessor to what Wisconsin is now, and somehow they usurped that which we believe should be ours. That can engender "hate", which is probably just another way of describing jealousy. I am certain back in the day when Hayden was beating Wisconsin every year not many people hated Wisconsin. A win this Saturday will make us feel a lot better, and a few more wins against Wisconsin in the years ahead will temper our "hatred" of them.

Agree hate is due to them beating us lately.
WI was my adopted team when Barry took them to the Rose Bowl in the 90's, loved them then.

To me, MN is the team we SHOULD be hating on, but can't, cause again, we beat them so much we are indifferent.

Spot on.

I feel this is a lot of reason why this has become my favorite game year in and year out. The ties to Iowa are very unique which adds to the entire situation. Also that we are relatively even in wins and losses, although each team goes on spurts with winning certain years.

It probably stems from watching John Clay and Monte Ball run over Iowa's DL on 2 consecutive long TD drives in the 2010 game. Everyone else seems to remember the fake punt. I can't forget Ball running over about 3 Hawkeyes on his way to the winning TD. It was a game that changed the trajectory of both programs. And Iowa hasn't been the same since.

And you mentioned jealousy. That is fairly accurate. There is some bitterness there that they have been so much better than Iowa over the last decade.

That was a fork in the road game for both programs for sure... Still that fn fake punt... I remember even yelling at the TV to look for that prior to them snapping that because of the time and score. I was surprised they weren't just going for it... Ugh... Not that I'm bitter or anything

I'll admit, Wisconsin is my second favorite team. They are so much like Iowa; never seem to get over the hump, they deserve the same respect OSU does and definitely more than Michigan and Penn State, but just never seem to get there.

There was a day when Iowa beat up on WI with regularity, and WI fans experienced the same funk that we Iowa loyalists are facing in recent years. Yes, the change has been dramatic. But, I believe firmly that Iowa could turn the corner on this rivalry, much as they have done with Minnesota, Michigan, and even PSU at some level.

Their fans are absolutely some of the worst. Every team has bad fans but Wisky much more than others
