Iowa vs Washington St. in the elite 8!

Megan Gustafson finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds.

Ally Disterhoft finished with 16 points, and a career record of 2102 for Megan to aim for.

Kathleen Doyle finished with 11 points and 8 assists.

I may still have a seat close to the floor available for some of the games next year, if anyone is interested. The team has a lot coming back, and will be a fun team to watch for sure!

First I would like to thank the seniors for all the hard work they put in to be a Hawkeye. I've enjoyed watching these last 4 years immensely!
Second Ally fell just 15 points shy of the all time scoring record. She finished with 2102 points for her career! Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap
Third Megan scored 628 points this year to put her in second place on the 600 point club. It gives her 980 for her career so far.
Fourth the Lady Hawks didn't play very well today. They are usually lights out at the free throw line but only managed 18-29. Horrid 3 point shooting 4-23. I think they also missed at least a half dozen bunnies also. They just didn't play well enough to win.
Fifth with that being said I think so changes need to be made. A trend is becoming obvious and very ugly. The new rule change with the fouls plain and simple SUCK!!!!!!
These last 2 games have been against inferior teams but they have found a loop hole in the rule. The Hawks have literally been beat to a bloody pulp! Against Colorado Megan got nailed in the face and the refs wouldn't look at the replay. Today it happened twice! The first one they ignored Lisa and wouldn't go look. The second time it took an act of congress for them to go look at it! Shure enough a flagrant 1 was called! The pattern I was referring to is Colorado and Washington St. both used pretty much the same tactic. What they were doing was hang onto block impede trip hack punch whatever it takes to keep Megan corralled. When a foul is finally called bring in a different girl and repeat. Now you may not think to much about this but just imagine this going on for 4 quarters. The fouls are wiped off after every quarter so that means they have 16 fouls to get their dirty work in before the penalty phase kicks in. Mind you both these teams were double teaming her and they were continuously hammering her the whole game! I don't like to nag on the officiating but I am calling them out on this! People were getting hurt intentionally and nothing was being done! Let's go back to the old way with the fouls and the 2 shot foul for the entire game really SUCKS BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!
Sixth why haven't we recruited another big? Chase will be a senior and Megan will be a junior. What's with this? Hopefully Megan will get stronger and not just with the upper body. Chase can be a big part next year along with Hannah. I'm looking forward to next season and I predict the Hawks will finish in the top 3! Mak needs to shoot 3 pointers all summer long and come back next year and kill it from the outside. Tania will be back eventually and Alexis will be a big help.
Thanks to all the fans that came and supported the Hawks! It was a fun year and it'll be awesome next year! Kathleen Doyle got that girl back that knocked her flat! HeHeHeHe She takes no prisoners! One tuff player!

Judzeehawk, I like a lot of what you said. I think some maturity will help this team. Melissa Dixon would hunt that three point shot and we have no one with that attitude anymore. This team when they get an open look from 3 look like they need a note from coach before they'll shoot it and then they rush into the shot - its pause and rush. That's why too many of the 3's clank or are off line and don't even hit the rim. With Megan's doubled all the time (it'll be worse next year) it should be easy to find an open 3. Coach will probably add more post to post offense next year. She didn't really put that in until after conference play began ( I know with so many freshman you're limited in what you can put in). With the big leaps Hannah took late in the season I can see her teaming with Megan inside ( we really only used post to post when Chase and Megan were in together). I hope Tania comes back strong. She will be out until January and I remember when Jamie Printy came back from the same injury she really wasn't the same for quite a while. I haven't heard anything about more recruiting for next year. We are recruiting a post player from Illinois, but if you are really good you want to play right away and they see Megan and think not many minutes for me. You are right we need MaKenzie, Alexis, Amanda, Bre, and others to be shooting 3's all summer and developing that shooters mentality. Who do you think starts next year?

Couple of things I wish Hannah was 6' 5" tall. She'd be pretty hard to move out of their. Hannah has improved immensely and I hope they use either Chase or Hannah more with Megan. If they could slide Megan out and shoot that 8-10 foot jumper would be a killer for teams. I know she can shoot it. When Jennings left that hurt especially when Tania got hurt. Do we keep Kathleen at PG or move her over and put Alexis in there. Alexis is a pretty good shooter and real good on defense. Bre is a huge ? mark for me. Not a shooter and never really has been that I can find. Pretty good defender if she can stop fouling. Mak has the ability to absolutely be lights out from 3. Like you said she needs to own like Melissa did. Carly must be done. Haven't heard anything at all about her. That's to bad she would of fit in nicely. Amanda has the size to really excel if she will improve this summer. Stanford, Florida, Louisville, Oklahoma, Michigan and Kentucky all offered her a scholarship so she's got to have some great skills. I've seen flashes of it this year so hopefully she'll pick it up for next year. Jinaya Houston is a 6' 1" wing player and I've heard she's kind of a Ally type player. I've never seen her play so I don't have any idea if she can step in as a freshman. Without seeing some of these pieces I'd go with Megan, Kathleen, Mak, Alexis and revolving door until someone stood out. Lol There's so many mix and matches that could be done it'd be hard to just pick out 5 and say your it and that's that. I know one thing for sure that Mak and Kathleen sure didn't play like freshman. Hagarwood let me know what you think.
