Iowa vs Washington St. in the elite 8!



Big Ten Plus was not very good tonight. They looped into replays and we'd miss live action. For part of the game they had overlapping audio. The students that usually do the games were drowned out by what I presume was a national feed, but better than nothing. An impressive game for Iowa. They recognized what was available and took it and did not get rattled when Colorado pressed and got more physical. I am impressed with the improvement Hannah Stewart has shown. She's much more aware of what's going on and what is available. Will not surprise me a bit if she claims a starting spot next to Megan next year.
 


I was sitting a ways away from Megan getting smacked in the face. My question is did anybody see it up close and why wasn't it reviewed for a flagrent foul? Hagar or Clinton did you see that play?
 






The Washington State Cougars has quite a global basketball team. They have 2 players from Australia, 2 from Hawaii and 1 each from France, Macedonia, Portugal, Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria.
They have played common opponents and have lost to Maryland. Beat the fuskers, UCLA. Also they beat the Colorado team 2 out of 3 times this year. The last game they played was in front of 712 people. Maybe our crowd will help the Hawks out with this one. Hagarwood I'll leave scoring stats up to you. Lol :)

I thought the play on Megan was an accident, but I'm on a small screen. Washington State is indeed an international team and interesting. They've lost their two best scorers and three starters to injuries. So they have had a lot of players step up. Alexys Swedlund is their best scorer and only real 3 point threat. They shoot 39% overall and 31% from three. They are big and they rebound at about 40 per game. They have 5 players with more than 100 rebounds - Iowa has 3.
They apparently slow it down and defend. They force 18 turnovers a game and 10 of those are steals. By comparison Iowa among the Big Ten leaders averages about 6 steals. Looks like we need to pack it in defensively and avoid the steals that lead to easy points. WSU won't generate a lot of offense if we can avoid turnovers. Hope we continue to shoot at least average and we'll need to rebound - keep Megan out of foul trouble. They have 4 big players to run at her, so Hannah and Chase will need to step up. All that considered they were 13-19 going into the tournament and only made it because they were the best Pac 12 team not going to the NCAA tournament. Forgot they are bad at Free Throws - team shoots 59%. If all else fails run out our depth and foul them.
 


If it comes down to a free throw shooting contest........I like our chances! I don't think I've ever seen a team shoot that bad! 59% Usually women excel at shooting free throws for some reason. If they take Megan away at least the Hawks have a lot of weapons to pick up the slack. The Hawks have been doing a lot better with not turning the ball over. Hopefully our speed will prevail and get a lot of easy buckets. Pretty excited to see this match up. All this extra playing time is going to pay off for next season. Hoping for Ally to have a big game and close in on the All Time scoring record! Go Hawks!
 




I'm hoping even the ones that turn up their nose at women's basketball will come out and support them. Come watch one in person and they just might surprise you. $13.00 for a ticket isn't to bad. A win would put them in the final 4 and a huge step forward for next year. I'll be there screaming and clapping for the whole game. Come join us at Carver! :) I forgot that kids get in for free!
