I am looking at the trends that the hawks have been playing clean, efficient games. Very few penalties and very few turnovers. Very good special teams kicking the ball but returns could be better. I think we can run the ball decently even if they throw an 8th guy in the box.

Has BF been holding back certain plays or formations? The coaches have been playing it pretty straight up so far.

For instance, not every Iowa QB is asked to do a naked bootleg to the left side of the formation but some are very good throwing the ball moving left. Maybe that is a play that can surprise Mich.

I havent watched much of Mich but a team rated so high early is under performing. Really good Mich teams should overwhelm Army and MTSU but they didnt and they absolutely got stomped by Wisky (and a few posters have said maybe they were sleep walking in that game which I think is false).

The main worry I have is if the hawks cant pressure Mich QBs and we still have backup Dbacks on their receivers. I think we can hold their run game down but maybe give up a few good runs.

We knock their dicks into the dirt.
I'm so tired of hearing Michigan States name brought up when talking about defense in the b10.
Is MSU's defense good? Sure. But come on, our boys didn't get enough recognition last year (probably because of a couple close losses) and they are not getting enough this year.
As Bonnie Raitt says, "let's give them something to talk about".

MSU's defense backs are just like Wisconsin's o-line. Great in college because they perfect borderline or outright illegal technique and then they know that the refs will only call them on it at most 3x per game. Then, their guys get into the League and end up not being all world like their college hype forecast.

Michigan, 10+.

They come out fired up and aggressive on D, BF can't or won't adjust, and the Hawks D can't save them.

28-14

I see this game playing out a lot like the Purdue game last year.

Michigan takes the lead early through their passing game targeting a CB with limited experience. Iowa fights all game to stay in the game and finally takes the lead late. But Michigan drives down the field to take the lead back with 10 seconds left. Iowa loses with 3 TOs in their pocket.

We will find out if we've learned anything from those close losses we suffered last year.

Three losses by a combined eight points. And we were ahead late in the fourth loss and just needed to get Hornibrook off the field one more time

Michigan is at a fragile point. They need this game desperately to right their season. This won't be an easy game for Iowa but it is winnable. The key is keeping the Michigan under 20 points. Michigan's defense is decent, but not on the level of Iowa State.

On offense Michigan doesn't have a running game. Shea Patterson will be tested this week. He needs to be able to deliver the ball in tight windows, something he hasn't done yet. Iowa should have a shot at a couple of INT's.

Iowa 27-16

Kirk and Brian still have too much of the 'lets eat the clock' instead of lets score some point. And this requires them to take 3 plays to get most first downs and so the have to execute more plays and so they play a game that is within 10 yards of the LOS 90pct of the time, teams squat, and it all gets very compressed.

Asking a lot of our lads against more talented teams.

Iowa scored 31, 18, and 30 points in the first 3 games this year. I'd be thrilled if the hawks could score 3 TDs against Michigan (Wisky scored 5).

Suppose Iowa does not have good field position? You know that's the equivalent of turning a turtle on its back. They Kirk and Brian usually don't have solutions for bad field position.

Im wondering if we used the bye week to put in some wrinkles specifically for this one and the Penn State game. Time will tell.

I’m not as confident as others in this thread. This is still a tough road game against a team that has a lot of talent.

I really would and will hope that the Hawks prevail. But I think this is the perfect storm for Michigan. They are a talented team full of top tier athletes. They have struggled to get things going in the right direction. They righted the ship last week and will be full of confidence this week during their preparation for the Hawks.

I think the strength of their team is a definite weak part of our team right now, and our overall philosophy of bend and don't break. Unless Parker dials up some defensive schemes that involved pressure on the QB I think they can match us drive for drive and potentially outscore us. If we rush 4 and play cover 2 they will destroy us, big quality receivers, with a dual threat QB.

Offensively I am not sure if we have been vanilla saving things for Michigan? Tight end usage, Martin, Goodson (in meaningful snaps), and time management. I do firmly believe we are capable of running the ball right down their throats and Michigan is going to have decide if they load the box or play honest.

Special teams are a mixed bag right now, no big kick returns, punt returns are AWFUL, our punter is going to have opportunities to switch the field, can he be consistent? Field goals could be the difference and I feel good about our kicker.

As always hostile environment means play clean, take what they give you, eliminate plays over 20+ yds, and keep the ball away from their offense. If we can do that I think we are capable of winning. I just do not get a good feeling about this game. I will say this, if Iowa shows up and slobber knocks em early and gets up by 10+ points I think we win. Right now I feel like a 13-10 score or something similiar with Michigan on top.

Hawks open with an early touchdown before relatively quiet first half, the score at half is 10-10 or 10-6 Hawks. Iowa makes good halftime adjustments and wears Michigan down en route to a 27-17 victory, with Stanley putting up two touchdowns to different receivers, and Goodson getting his first TD on a breakaway run late in the game. Iowa’s lines dominate Michigan’s, especially after the first quarter.

The way Stanley has consistently targeted a variety of receivers is a big plus. If this continues against Michigan, I think we win
