Iowa vs Maryland today

I would much rather have Brenda as a head coach than Lisa but that's just me. I know Lisa is a hall of fame coach but she seems to be out-coached nearly every game. She is a good recruiter though!

Interesting, I don't know how long you've followed Iowa Women's Basketball, but it has been only 4 or 5 years ago that Coach Bluder was being criticized for not being able to recruit top flight talent. Brenda Freeze is an elite coach. Probably top five in the country so I doubt anyone would turn her away if she wanted to come to Iowa (doubt she does though). When Coach Bluder came here the program was in a serious down turn for a variety of reasons not the least of these was the less tolerant stance about the sexuality of college coaches. She stepped in and has done a great job of rebuilding the Iowa program and I believe the future looks bright. Coach Freeze may in some ways be a better coach, but I don't believe she would have done as well doing the necessary rebuild. Coach Bluder continues to improve and check back in and see if you feel the same way 3 or 4 years down the road. Thanks for your comments.

I am going to disagree with you and say you're wrong about the being out coached. What you need to understand is those turtles have the best post player in the country. In fact most of their players are McDonalds All Americans. Our last 2 recruiting classes we have recruited very well and are very young and sometimes they play like they are freshman. I actually thought Lisa did a tremendous job coaching this game. About the only thing I wish she would of done was not put Kastanek in because she's to slow. I wished she would of tried Amanda. Not only can she shoot the 3 ball she also is a rebounder. I really do appreciate you posting and hope you keep posting.

First I would like to say this was a fun game to attend. The crowd was nuts! I know most people just look at the score and say ( it's a blow out ) and yes I guess they did get beat by 16. What I took away from this game is Iowa was leading at the half and that is only the second time that's happened to Maryland this year. I would make a guess and say the other game was against UCONN. Another positive Iowa scored 82 points when Maryland has only been giving up 58 points a game. The bad things Maryland scored 27 points off of turn overs. That's the glaring issue! Stop with the turn overs. Easier said than done with a very very young team. The Hawks are closing the gap and nobody is going to want to play them.

Maryland has made their money this year out rebounding opponents. Even when they lost to UConn they won the rebound battle. Iowa can play with them, but they will need their best rebounding effort of the year. Iowa will need to use their depth too. Our 5th through tenth players are better so we need to keep up the defensive intensity and when we run TAKE CARE of the ball. GO HAWKS.

We lost the rebounding battle 44-30. Maryland really crashes the boards hard. Would love to see the Hawks imitate them on the glass. With that said I listened to Jan Jensen after the game and she was talking about the rebounding. Jan was taking some of the blame for that and she thinks she needs to work with them on anticipating the shot more. They also need to hold their ground. I feel that sometimes the girls are standing up to straight and get pushed around quite easily. That's why I like Chase as a rebounder because she can hold them back. Don't really know the answer but hopefully the coaches can get this improved.
