Iowa vs Lewis exhibition game thoughts

Final score Iowa 61-35

Iowa out rebounded Lewis 54-24

Iowa used a 5 player line shift for much of the game. Ally Disterhoft, Megan Gustafson, Tania Davis, Kathleen Doyle and Bre Cara started the first half, Mackenzie Meyer started the second half in place of Doyle.

They mixed and matched more in the second half. The most productive line up was Gustafson, Coley, Disterhoft, Meyer, Davis. That might the starting lineup this year.

Hannah Stewart played very well off the bench, and contributed greatly to Iowa's dominance inside. Carley Mohns is still out with her knee injury. Her expected return is now December 1st. Until then Hannah's improved play will be key, as well as Christina Buttenham who also played well.

Kastanek, Cera, Doyle and Sevillian are all good options off the bench in the back court. It's hard to say now who will red shirt, but I would expect a couple of players to do so with all this depth and youth on the team.

My only thought is that I'm still pizzed Whitney Jennings left.
Whitney will be missed greatly this year. I believe if she would of stayed we definitely would be in the hunt for 3rd. in the BIG. Imo Whitney was the best shooter we had and she didn't shoot nearly enough. Wished she'd stayed.
This years team has got a ton of potential but there very young and it's going to take awhile for them to accel. I believe we are going to be a lot better on the defensive side of the ball with the addition of Alexis Sevillian. The freshman are going to be awesome and are a great addition to the Lady Hawks. Kathleen Doyle and Amanda Ollinger will be big contributors before years end.
Megan Gustafson has improved her footwork tremendously and no longer thinks about what move to do and just takes it to them. Looking for great things from Megan this year. It's going to be a lot of fun watching these girls improve throughout the year and I can't wait to get to the game against Oral Roberts in Carver this Friday! GO HAWKS!

I was a bit surprised at Whitney Jennings' transfer also. However this team is definitely in a good position to absorb the loss between Alexa Kastanek and the All American recuits that they got. 3 of the recruits were guards, including the late pick up of Kathleen Doyle who was a Nebraska commit before their coach left. The hard part for the coaches this week will be deciding who red shirts as it appears like all the freshman could contribute right away.

Why do they need some to red shirt? I really don't know who would because like you said they all could contribute this year. There's 5 of them and that would be a huge blow to lose them all at the same time but other than that I can't see any red shirt.
Since Alexa Kastanek had her knee injury she hasn't been the same. Hopefully she can get her 3 point shot back but I'm not counting on it and she's a step slow on defense.

Right now there are 12 scholarship players ready to go. 2 seniors, 2 juniors, 3 sophomores and 5 freshman. If Carley Mohns can make an impact after she returns that makes 13, she will be a redshirt sophomore as she was granted a medical last year. All the other sophomores are expected to play a lot of minutes. The coaches will just have to decide soon how deep they want the rotation to be.

ClintonIAfan it is quite a different situation than what we are accustomed to. Loving every minute of it! :)
