Iowa vs. Illinois

I hear Gus Johnson may be doing the game. I wonder how many Illannoy fans show up this year. Hopefully we will have 12,000 strong and be able to drown them out, might be tough with the students on break...

We need everyone to get to CHA and drown out the Illannoy fans that are bound to show up.

Last year was embarrassing to see the Orange Crush behind Iowa's basket.

One mitigating factor for illini crush showing up in Iowa City is that the illini have their bowl game that nite at 5 oclock,so many illini fans will be watching that or down in texas. Fine by me. We need an Iowa house that nite....the illini have not looked that great on the road.

In order to beat them we have to have a strong defensive game as we really don't have anyone who can put a lot of points up on the board. I don't know if we have anyone who can stop McCamey either.

I do have a good feeling about this one for some reason though. I would love that game to be Fran's first Big Ten win.

I think this is a game the Hawkeyes can win.

Don't think for a second that the returning players don't have this game marked on the calendar, and the Hawkeye fan base should as well. That was an embarrassment to allow the orange crush to ambush the Hawkeyes like that at Carver.

Congrats to the Hawkeyes on the road win at Drake! Hawkeyes will be underdogs in 15 out of the 18 Big Ten games this year. Illinois is loaded with athletic talent I would love to start the year with a big upset, it will be interesting if Weber survives there. He is still considered a Purdue guy and not from Illinois.

Illinois is loaded with athletic talent.

This is true, but they got some big egos on that team too. I wonder if that has an effect on the team chemistry and the relationship with coach Weber. We've already seen McCamey and Weber literally bumping heads in the game against Wisconsin last season. No doubt the Illini can be an elite team with their talent, but I feel like their may be to many chiefs and not enough Indians on that team, and maybe a lack of respect for the head chief Bruce Weber.

On Point, the Illini were my preseason pick to win the BT, if and only if, Weber and McCamey could coexist, it is obvious by losing to UIC that Illinois would be better off with McCamey, kinda like Michigan has been a much better team without Manny Harris and DeShawn Sims.

I disagree. The Illini are pretty much a jump shooting team. We need to guard their shooters, block out on the boards and hope they have an off night shooting.

UIC beat them by employing a 1-3-1 zone, which pushed their shooters out of their favorite spots.
Fran will mix it up,with some zone in the mix,but the Illini can shoot lites out when they get going on some nites. If they do, we are screwed, but if not, they are beatable. I expect them to bounce back with a big win vs Mizzou tomorrow nite tho.

I give Iowa a 1/4 chance to win this game. If May can start playing better and Gatens continues to improve we definitely have a shot.

This will be a critical game in the season. If we win obviously that's huge but just being competitive is important.

I don't know if it's the critical game of the season. Seeing as we are going to be a losing team and possibly a last place team there aren't really any of those for us.

I do think it's our best chance of beating a ranked team unless maybe Northwestern is ranked when they come to Carver.

Just because we suck doesn't mean nothing matters. If we hope to be competitive I don't think getting blown out helps and you can't deny that beating a ranked team would be big for this program.

Even you don't care if we finish 9th or 11th winning/being competitive is important for recruiting and development.

No, every game matter. I'm just saying there is no "critical game" for a team like us. The goal for our team is to be competitive/beat every team but if we don't in one game use it as a learning experience and move on. One loss to a top 15 team won't kill us. Even if it's by 50.

Ah gotcha, I would have to agree
