Considering how young are two-deeps are, with a couple of good recruiting years this team could be loaded.

I was going to post a thread to talk about the Iowa commits. I have been fairly high on this class since they started signing them. I think with all the changes (and improvements) we have seen to date, that I'm thinking we absolutely have a stud class coming in. I think they have focused on recruiting and they are targeting and getting either their 1st or 2nd choices on all of these kids.
Lets look at some individual ones.
Toren Young, as posted above absolutely killed it this season. One of the first kids signed, and is only a "2*" kid. No way that ranking isn't adjusted, but he was one of the staffs top targets and they got him.
Amani Hooker, some stats were posted above as well. He is killing it and will probably be the POY in Minnesota. He stepped in at QB when the starter was injured and had several games with 300 yds + passing. He has like 9 or 10 interceptions in 8 or 9 games.
TJ Hockenson is rewriting Iowa high school record books. I think he has like 76 catches and over 1000 yards this season so far. Another 2* kid who also avg. 20+ PPG on the BB court. Just a stud athlete.
Akinribade and Wade both ran well for their teams, each had nearly 1500 yds rushing.
Rugamba is playing at a high level for his HS team on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
Lattimore earned a 4th* from Scout already.
Kyle Taylor was sought after by many schools, and has been playing well.
I think this class is going to be a good one. Since they got a lot of hay in the barn early they have gotten a great jump on the '17 class as well. I think that if Iowa continues to do well this year, the '17 class could be a monster class for the Hawks.

.Kidding aside, finishing strong this year could really boost overall talent/depth. Low attrition and continued high level development will elevate things further.
Gotta get the "right" kids that have the attitude to go with the talent...something missed in the '04-'05 classes.

I don't think that's particularly fair. Injuries took a pretty heavy toll on that loaded 2005 class and kept a lot of them from contributing consistently, but they really came together in 2008 and 2009 when they were finally healthy. Dace Richardson, Moeaki, Eubanks, Angerer, Calloway and Stross were all key contributors as upperclassmen. Then there were several other guys whose careers just never got off the ground due to injuries.

that class is THE reason for the great '09 season that ended with the Orange Bowl victory, IMO.
Yes, many washed out for many reasons -lots and lots of injuries - but the ones that made it - those 5th year guys - like Angerer -and others mentioned by another poster - were key players in ability and leadership for that team.

It's like the old saying goes" winning fixes everything". It really helps recruiting when your in the top 25 and being mentioned here and there. Winning on the field equals winning on the recruiting trail.
I think we have 3 scholies left for 2016. We are going hard after OLs Matt Farniok and Alaric Jackson....plus a DB who may be K.J. Sails. We are competing with the big boys here and I anticipate 2017 to be more of the same where we are in the conversation with elite programs.

Ill admit, its a bit unfair of a generalization, and injuries played a roll as well. I probably should have said '04-'05. My point being that very few of the high star guys made it all the way through, for many reasons. Doring, Bain, and a number of other highest rated guys didn't pan out, and a ton of that was entitlement and attitude (the great Angerer knocked out Doring for that attitude, if I recall). That said, the Hawks you mentioned played a large part, and glad they did.
As far as '08, Shonn Green was the difference, an unknown JC guy that was delivering furniture right nefore. And '09 was Stanzi, a 3 star unknown and McNutt, a converted 3 star QB were the difference.
I still contend the attrition from those top 10 recruiting classes also played a large role in the struggles that ensued in many of the tough years up until now. Among other things.

Agreed, but see my post above. The guys from those classes that became the leaders, they were of the ilk that had the attitude to develop, and we're 3* and lower.. Outside of Moeaki (who was an absolute stud when healthy), I don't recall any 4* or 5* players making an impact.
Again, my apologies for the overgeneralization. I may be in error on this. Make no mistake, Angerer, Moeaki, and a few others were Hawkeye Greats, and '09 was magical.
All in all though, those highest rated players from those top 10 classes, were busts.
Not saying we don't need higher rated recruiting, we absolutely do, but the right fit Along with finding "Iowa" guys, is the dream.
Maybe I'm way off base with my premise, won't be the first or last time.

JDM thinks Wiscy (having lost the state's #1 RB commit) will make a play for Toren Young...
Hopefully, after Melvin Gordon, Iowa understands to play this one differently. Mel may have decommitted regardless; we don't know, but his HS coach indicated that after receiving his verbal the Iowa coaching staff fell out of contact, and that opened the door to other programs.

I would like to see some bragging about the kids Iowa recruited who are now 7-0, ranked in the top 15 in the country, and have a chance to win 10-12 games. And, many of them will be back in 2016. Where are the recruiting experts who claim that all we do is sign leftovers and MAC level players? Whar R U ? (sorry...I just simply could not resist)

On the other hand, Iowa was just above .500 over the past 5 years with many of these same players. But this team definitely has better chemistry, CJ and DEFENSE.

Amani had 6 of his teams 7 TD's. 3 were receiving TD's, 2 Rushing, and a Int return for a TD. Unreal really.
