Iowa v Virginia Tech in ACC/B1G Challenge

Jon, haven't we reached the point where we need quality wins rather than quantity? Personally, I'd rather draw a team that went to the tourney.

First of all I am sure they are licking their chops like we are at the matchup. Playing on the road in the ACC is no gimmee, Iowa will have to earn it even against VTech. Secondly winning on the road against an ACC opponent will not hurt Iowa's chances of getting into the post season.

I agree that will not be a gimme. I think its a good match up. They're a team like us three years ago, probably a little better that we were three years ago.

I know we're better than we were then, but I remember in Fran's first year we played at Wake Forest and I think were up by 20 at one point in the first half and still lost (by 3 or 4 I think). Wake Forest was worse then than V Tech will be this year....I think they won less than 10 games and may have been winless in the ACC.

This team (like a lot of teams) seems to have a different personality on the road. No road game against an ACC opponent will be easy.

But I agree, I don't think they could have gotten a better draw.

I don't like it. Not from the standpoint that it isn't a winnable game, because it definitely is. The problem is it, in all likelihood, won't count as a quality win in the eyes of the selection committee and will most likely be a bad, and RPI-killing, loss if Iowa loses. Compound this with an already less than stellar Cancun Challenge field and the in-state opponents, it just seems like a bunch of can't-lose games for an Iowa team that will have as it stands now, eight of its scholarships used on freshman and sophomores. It would be better, IMO, to have a game away against a Top 25 team from the ACC; A game that Iowa wouldn't be expected to win but to serve as an SOS booster and at least give the chance for an impressive win early in the season.

Jon: Please give me Ghost's e-mail address, or cell phone to see if he's willing to put some $$$ behind his prediction about NCAA tourney, next year. We are there

We're not going to the NCAA tournament next year guys. Stop setting yourself up for disappointment.

Speak for yourself. I'd rather enjoy myself by looking forward to the possibilities of a successful season, even if it ultimately ends in disappointment, than go through an entire season afraid to celebrate victories along the way because the ultimate prize is deemed out of reach by someone who has absolutely nothing to do with the games.

I don't care if you don't feel the same way, but don't tell me how I am supposed to feel.

Overly sensitive message board guy weighing in. Oh you cheated on me? Let's sit down and talk about it.
