Iowa Two-Deep for Illinois Game

The skill players returning is going to be exciting. The OL could be a total mess as Wirfs is gone for sure, and possibly Jackson as well.

Do you get the feeling that we've been recruiting better at oline but the production has gotten worse?

I think Jackson will go. Personally I’m not as panicked about the Oline as some others.

It starts with Linderbaum, who has a pretty good chance to be a freshman All American. That’s unreal considering the guy just started playing the position last year in bowl prep. Another bowl prep, spring, and offseason that dude is going to be a very very good center.

I’m also super high on Britt. I’m not sure if people have forgotten but that dude tore his ACL in his senior season of high school and was competing for reps this year as a true freshman less than a year removed from surgery. I just checked he’s at 4 games now so I’m guessing the coaches are thinking let’s keep his redshirt which is fine. Another offseason and I think Britt will be the best guard on the team next year and easily superior to anyone we had in there this year.

Kallenberger has a lot of experience and will be ready for a full season at tackle. Schott, Barnwart, or Ince should be serviceable. It’s that last tackle spot that is up for debate. Can Plumb put on the weight? Is Ezra Miller ready?

I totally understand the concern, I guess I’m just not as down on the potential for the Oline group next year as some might be.

I think we might go back to being strong on the interior and suspect at the Ts.

Though, Kallenberger and Plumb are natural tackles unlike Boettger and Myers, which helps, and I think the former has really high upside and has plenty of experience by now.

It’s almost like the WR position where they went from a weakness to a strength. The interior Oline could see something similar.

In my personal opinion there won’t be much of a drop off if any from Alaric to Kallenberger. Alaric has a ton of potential with his size but I’ve never felt he was crazy good at the college level. Replacing Wirfs is going to be where we feel some major pain.

It's very refreshing to see Goodson starting. Our offense looked so much better in the first half before he got dinged up and didn't play in the second half.

Good point, I dont disagree with anything you said. I guess I just see him as him as a more of a possession kind of guy, which we need, but with ISM/Tracy we are much more dynamic.

B smith has caught a lot of balls down the field. Maybe his receiver position is more a shorter route scheme but he has made some really great long catches.

To me the better recruiting started with the 2019 class, Britt, Miller, Endres, and Fenske. In 2020 Tyler Elsbury (G) and Mason Richman (T) are both considered 4*s by 247 sports, and Josh Volk is a high 3*. 2021 Colby is a consensus 4* and Gennings Dunker is considered a 4* by 247.

So I’m hoping that will materialize into better Oline play in the coming years.

Paulsen’s just never really panned out. Wirfs was a good get and so was Jackson but we were light on the inside. We’ve landed some good looking interior and tackle prospects the last few cycles.

I think the oline ok. Due to injuries, Britt, Ince, Kallenberger and Schott played this year. Banwart will be back. Have no clue about the depth. Always helps having an experienced good center returning and Iowa will have that with Linderbaum
