Iowa target Shelby Moats commits to Vandy

Hits just keep coming today....cross another Iowa BB recruit target off the list.

Still waiting for #1 in the class of 2011.

Why do people it 'hits' just because someone commits to another school and not Iowa? A hit would be someone on the team getting hurt, but not losing something that you did not have to begin with...it is not going to be an easy year to recruit kids to Iowa. The best case scenario is that the team comes out and does very well in the non-conference games and plays decent during the Big Ten, then we might pick up a some recruits, but I am not going to hold my breath and I will celebrate any commitments when they come. I will not be surprised when a recruit decides to go to another school that has less turmoil than we have right now. IMHO....

No kidding. I still can't believe Travis picked PSU over Iowa! That just blows my mind. Now this. If Oglesby bolts, the road ahead looks quite rough. Not that he is a make or break player, but to lose another in-state kid doesn't bode well for a program that has difficulty attracting out-of-state kids. Come on, Fran!

It's all about perspective.....Iowa has yet to secure a commit for the 2011 class. I know the staff if playing catch and trying to build/establish and secure a commitment for the class.

Ideally it would be nice if Iowa could get at minimum 2 kids signed in November and then sign another two/three in the spring depending on how the roster turns out.

Do you think this is likely? Seems like we're making the final cut for a lot of these kids, but not getting any commitments.

Hard to say at this point. I would hope Josh Olgeslby would be one of them...he is supposed to decide and sign in the early signing period. Commit #2 would just be a guess at this time....not sure who...

I'm not panicking yet.

If Ogelsby heads to ASU, then I will start worrying.

Even then I won't be panicking. What people believe Iowa basketball is right now is what is hurting them. It isn't the same and when the season comes around kids will see it.

Given the dismal state that Lickliter plunged this program into, a turnaround is a long term investment, and that is in relationships, in changing preceptions(about playing style, about atmosphere, about winning), it doesnt happen overnight, nor with one player not signing. When players, recruits, coaches, and fans start to believe, then the results will follow.

Other than that this kid from another state expressed some interest in Iowa months ago--which he didn't continue, why would you term him an "Iowa BB recruit target". His own father has been quoted for weeks now that his son has Vandy as a strong favorite.

As far as I can tell, any mutual interest in the hawkeyes never got to the point of a scholarship being offered.

As for Colemen, seems to me that he committed to Minnie now primarily because of his concern that Oglesby might accept Tubby Smith's offer first (they play the wing position). Especially since the word was out that Oglesby & Illinois have dropped each other, increasing the likelihood that Oglesby could move quickly to commit to the Goofers (instead of Iowa) before Coleman could.

IMO all this shakes down to the probability that Oglesby will commit to the Hawkeyes sometime in the next week or two.

And that turns the focus to Harris, who was on campus with his parents over the weekend. Probably wishful thinking, but I'm going with the hunch that Harris & family are sold on McCaffery. I even conjecture that this influenced Travis to take the Penn State offer: McCaffery is the honest broker sort (at least that is what we're being sold) who by such reasoning would have been candid with Travis that he was a second fiddle choice behind Hariis for the Hawkeyes (which combined with the realization that his chances for quick playing time at State College are infinitely better than at Iowa--where he would have Besabe, McCabe, Marble & May ahead of him for two, three years)

Such a scenario is 180 degrees from the bleak expectations that many/most Iowa fans (naturally, in view of the last 8 years) hold. Harris & Oglesby would be a superb first half of the 2011 recruiting class: what concerns me more is who will be the other two (front court, big men) even if McCaffery gets two top wing players in Harris & Oglesby.

Maybe a breakthough with these guys could improve chances of finding something better than an Archie or a Brommer or a Moats. I'm to the point of thinking at least we will have Cougill back....

Rivals lists him as having an Iowa offer. Those people do this for a living, but I can guess I can take the word of internet message board guy on this one.

+1. Doesn't mean it isn't painful to watch good prospects go to other programs.

This post, whether correct or not, made me feel a lot better....up until your last sentence.

I agree with that. I hope Cougill decides to go somewhere else. If Iowa is going to play an up tempo game Cougill doesn't fit.
