Iowa State had their chance

I keep hearing variations on the notion that if ISU just hadn't made that boneheaded play on special teams they would have put together a drive to win the game at the end, and it was unfortunate/whatever, that we didn't get a chance to watch that play out. I call BS on that. Don't forget that ISU had their chance and couldn't convert on the drive just before. That was their opportunity, and they came up short. That really happened. The other stuff is just rank speculation.

Done talking about ISU. Next.

I get what you're saying, but over a minute against Purdy and our beat up secondary to get into FG range is a lot of time. It was an 83% chance of victory for Iowa until the muffed punt, according to the gamecast.

Just for fun I posted a poll immediately after the game that is still up. Here are the current results
  • 13 voters (27.7%) believe ISU would have scored
  • 17 voters (36.2%) believe they would have not
  • 17 voters (36.2%) said not to matter, games over now

So unfortunate they had one of the most boneheaded f-ups of the weekend that cost them an opportunity to get the ball back immediately after they screwed up another opportunity on the previous drive. totally agree that it's BS. Turnovers cost games, and you're probably not going to see a more entertaining turnover.
