IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa Men's Basketball Coach Fran McCaffery announced today that Trey Dickerson has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa. Dickerson, who has three years of eligibility remaining, is the third recruit in Iowa’s 2014 class.

Dickerson is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound guard from Queens, N.Y. Dickerson finished his prep schooling at God’s Academy (Texas) and played his freshman year of collegiate basketball at Williston State College in North Dakota. Dickerson led the Tetons to a 27-6 overall record and 9-1 in conference play.

Last season, Dickerson averaged 19.8 points, 5.7 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 29 games played. Dickerson is rated as the No. 1 point guard and 10th overall prospect in junior college according to 247Sports. His efforts earned him third team all-America honors by the NJCAA and MVP of the Mon-Dak Athletic Conference.

"We’re thrilled that Trey is joining the program," said McCaffery. "He’s an incredibly talented, quick, and creative point guard who can also score. He’s excellent in transition and can also play in the half court. Trey has great feel for how to play. He’s a perfect fit for our style.â€

Prior to attending God’s Academy, he was a California all-state honoree his sophomore and junior seasons. He was also invited to the Nike Top 100 Camp his sophomore season.

Dickerson will join already signed recruits Brady Ellingson and Dominque Uhl on the 2014-15 Iowa roster.

2014 Iowa Men’s Basketball Recruiting Class

Dominique Uhl F 6-9 195 Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. (Point Pleasant Beach)
Trey Dickerson G 6-1 180 Queens, N.Y. (God’s Academy/Williston State College)

Good news! I'm excited for next basketball season and a new slate. I think Trey will be key to getting us back on the right track.

Bye bye Clemmons?

Honestly, I'm not sure. I feel like he probably would have made that decision by now; Dickerson's been coming down the pipe for some time now. Plus, the way he talked at the end of the year, he really put all the blame for his performance on himself, talking about how he lost focus, etc., and how he plans to rededicate himself.

Obviously it's all speculation no matter which side of the fence you fall on right now, but I've got a feeling that he might be ready to come back next year as a much hungrier player. He can definitely play when he's dialed in, and if that gives us three dependable point guards, that's good news for us.

Clemmons will be a big part of this team next year. He has some gains to be had for certain. I look forward to his next two seasons with the anticipation that he will kick some ***. The guy has the skills and the quickness.... With the trio of AC, MG & TD Iowa will have a seriously good back court next year. B1G smiles....

I wonder if they will move Jok and Oglesby to small forward/off-guard with White playing the power forward. They will have a lot of options next year.

I like the attitude Trey has about becoming a Hawkeye and his determination to persuade other quality players to come on board. He is doing what Josh Oglesby did with Mike Gesell and Adam Woodbury.....

By the way, if Willie does not come to play at Iowa, it is not a fail on Trey's part. Atwood is going to make his own decision, and Trey is trying to help the team by convincing him to come to play for the Hawks. I like his pride about becoming a Hawk and that he seems to be relentlessly recruiting for the Hawks. I appreciate that.....

Trey is a big addition. I think he will turn out to be a huge get for the Hawks. Guard play wins championships. And now we have it. Look for multiple sets with Trey, MG and AC. I see a lot of 2 guard , 3 big sets. Trey, MG, Uthoff/Jok, White/Olesani, and Woody/Olesani. 2014 is going to be fun!

I doubt you see too much of TD, MG, and AC at the same time. That's pretty small 1-3. I think you will see a lot more of TD, MG and Ogelsby/Jok.

I agree. I suppose it could happen in the non conference when we play those directional schools with 4 guards and a 6'7" forward playing the entire game.
