Iowa showing interest in Jamie Dixon?

I was talking to a Pitt fan at work today. He said Iowa is very interested in Dixon. Anyone heard that one?

If Bruce Pearl is pie in the sky, Jamie Dixon is cake on the freaking moon.

I don't agree with that at all. Pittsburgh's a pro city where the Panthers are page 3 news most of the time. Plus, I think we could probably make it worth his while financially.

No chance. Why don't we offer Pitino and Rick Barnes too. Come on, at least Pearl has big time Iowa ties.

If you believe that, than we are insanely stupid not to have him as the second name on our list.

That being said... PItt is still a tour de force in that city. While it is a pro sports town, there is also no NBA team.

Our list or Barta's list?

None of us here have the slightest idea who is on Barta's list.

NOt sure what you have against Jamie Dixon? That would be terrific. He is a great coach, fine recruiter and has established himself very well. I love the thought. He is in a pro-city making 1.5 million that is very attainable for us. Offer him 2 with incentives, see what happens?

Are you crazy? I would love this guy! I am saying that is as unrealistic as Pearl. JDM feels differently on the realism approach, but I don't think ANYONE could argue that this would be a grand slam on Bartas part.

With all these threads about possible coaches, etc., I think it is important to recognize good coaching talent. Maybe it is naive or even out of touch to dream about getting a guy like Bruce Pearl or a Jamie Dixon, but to be honest, I want our A.D. to take a shot at someone like these guys. We could really use a game changer for a coach and these are the types of guys that could re-energize the fanbase, the players, the recruits, the student body and bring in some bigtime talent. They bring credibility immediately back into the program and probably fill the arena again. Lesser known guys won't bring the instant credibility. They can earn it, but it is another obstacle to overcome in a fledgling program. Maybe you can't get them and maybe that is reality, but I think you still have to try. I would rather try and fail to get one of these guys, but know I did all I could to make it happen than to not try at all then find out later that it could have been possible. Even if they say no, you might get some really great advice on who they think can do the job.

We have a lot to offer in terms of money, conference, and now new facilities finally coming along. We DO have a great fanbase that can sell out the arena and help build momentum that can bring our program back out of obscurity. IMO, our A.D. has to absolutely understand his vision for this program and then sell it to the candidate that best fits that vision.

We may not be as good of a program as our black and gold glasses want us to see, but we are not as far away as we think either. While I am aware that Pearl and Dixon would probably not leave their current jobs, I still want Gary to go after them and sell, sell, sell if he thinks these are the guys who can get it done.

I heard the name Dixon today, too. I love what Hawkeye 1690 said above about Barta having a vision and aiming high. Dead on if we want to ever get where we want to go. Another quote for you-- "Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're right." (Henry Ford)

Dixon ain't coming to Iowa City. He pretty much got offered the Arizona job last year with good timing, as his 3 stud players were leaving for the NBA, yet he stayed at Pitt. I love the coaching search fodder, although this process is getting way too familiar over the past decade (!), but let's be realistic on who would be interested in Iowa.
