Iowa says it will learn from 12 in hospital (new quotes)

I fail to see how that puts Iowa in a good light.

The continued crappy comments Iowa contines to put out is pathetic and embarrassing and makes it look a lot worse than it probably is.

I agree, sometimes the athletic department just needs to shut up and not say anything.

For Christ Sakes with this he makes it sound like it is the players fault because they might not have been clear on the expectations of what type of fitness routine they should do over break when they are away from the complex:

He said Wednesday that the school will also try to avoid problems after players return from breaks and might not have kept up with fitness routines by making sure expectations are clear.

Yes the players should do something, but we are only talking about 3 weeks, these guys are in great shape when they go home after the bowl game for 2 or 3 weeks and even if they don't get off the couch they won't be that far out of shape to lead to what happened.

Tell that to the Heisman winners who go out for banquets during the down time before their bowls and show up looking sluggish for the bowl.

That sounded terrible and as I said before I consider this to be the worst case scenario - Iowa coach's endangering players out negligence or worse.

Iowa has certainly provided other teams with lots of negative recruiting material the last couple months. Between star players getting caught with drugs, rape trials and mass hospitalizations, you could easily make a recruit's parent question what kind of situation they are sending their child into.

As the university reviews what happened and how to prevent future occurrences, it needs to consider all factors, including environmental. The air quality should be tested and the HVAC systems in the building housing the workout equipment examined to make sure it is working properly.

There have been cases in which minimal carbon monoxide poisoning contributed to acute renal failure, leading to a diagnosis of rhabdomyolysis.

I am not a doctor or an environmental specialist, but to my untrained mind it would would make sense that if the players were doing intense workouts in space where they were exposed to poor environmental factors the effects could be magnified.

Hopefully they've learned that they need to come up with more plausible stories in order to veil what really went down. Seriously, 12 D-1 athletes on the same team all just so happen to have the same condition that leads to their hospitalization on the exact same day? I can't be the only one that finds this whole thing completely ridiculous...

I don't think that's been confirmed, at least no one has been able to point me to a credible source that states that they all had Exertional Rhabdomyolysis

That's not really the point..

I don't think that's been confirmed, at least no one has been able to point me to a credible source that states that they all had Exertional Rhabdomyolysis

in the end it's not all that important whether or not they all had Externtional Rhabdomyolysis. The issue is that 12 players had to end up being hospitalized after a workout, period. I have no idea whose fault it is, who should be blamed, etc. That will all be sorted out. Something has gone wrong if you end up with 12 players being hospitalized. Period.
